1996 3.0 to 4.3 Volvo question

I have a 21 foot boat with the 3.0 volvo with 135hp with SX cobra Drive, I have the space in the engine compartment for a 4.3. volvo Will it fit to the drive?<br />I understand new motor mounts may need to be placed. I want the 4.3 with the 225 hp fuel inj motor<br /> The diff in WT looks to be abount 88lbs for 90hp more hope to get the boat faster then 26mph. <br /> Also does anyone know some places to find this engine in a used or new edition.<br /> Thanks in advance for any info.<br />Traumagas@aol.com

Not without a LOT of work. It's not just a matter of whether it will fit to the drive, which IS splined the same.. although the drive gear ratio is incorrect for a V-6. <br /><br />It's also a matter of running two banks of cyl's through the exhaust, making sure the alignments work, making sure the gauges/senders/electrical works, etc. <br /><br />as far as locating one, there are several on eBay as we speak.

I have compared the wts and the ratio of the drives sx and they are listed 1.85 for both 3.0 and 4.3 on the volvo site. The wt is 88 punds heavier. If the splines and ratio are different , I guess I could buy a complete new unit engine with drive or find a used boat with that system and change it over. I would hope the hole in the transom would be the same since it is the sx drive and not the older volvos . if anyone has any info on getting what I need point me in that direction.<br />Thanks again<br />Jon
