I have a 1993 Mariner 30hp with a Quicksilver remote controller. Outboard has electronic starter. When I turn the ignition key off, the engine still runs. What usually is the problem and where to start looking for ground issues? I tried to replace the ignition switch assembly, but did not fix the problem, and the aftermarket part had a terrible quality key barrel cylinder that stopped working, so I put back in the original one.

Yup to kill engine you need to apply ground
With your switch off check and make sure you have continuity between Black and Black/yellow at the switch
( not Yellow /black) also go back to the motor and find your Black /Yellow going into switch box and make sure it has continuity with switch off thus is what kills the engine
