The engine runs perfect for about 15 minutes. Then it will die suddenly as if the ignition switch was turned off. No sputtering or gasping. Have determined it is not a fuel problem. Switched out coils while problem was occurring but it didn't change anything. Dealer bypassed resistor wire but that didn't help. After engine dies, I begin a cycle of starting then dying, not starting, starting and then dying when pulled to idle, dying when shifting, dying when not shifting, dying when running WOT, and finally dying when pulling up to the boat dock to take it out after having been at the lake for only 30 minutes. Seems to be temperature related because after extended cooling off, I can get another good 15 minutes from her. Boat repair shop is stumped. Any ideas?
Paul

Have you done a tune up? Replaced wires?

How did you eliminate fuel? Could be a blocked vent.

This does not sound like you problem, but the dist driven gear pin would break and the gear would spin on the dist shaft, 1989/90 engines. OMC replaced the dist that had a pressed on gear with pin. If engine has points the breaker plate may not have a good ground. Mistake to bypass resistor. Check voltage to coil, with key in start position and run position, run position should be close to 9 volts. Im guessing on the spec, to tired to look for book.

If the boat has points and condenser, the condenser may be bad. They will sometimes short out when to hot or cold. Check the gound on the motor/alternator and try another battery. Hope this helps.
