i'm new to this site and have seen that there is alot of knowledge on here, so maybe some of you guys can help me. i have recently picked up a glassport 165 with a chevy 4 cyl i/o, with an Alpha 1 outdrive. i have to rebuild the back seat/engine cover assembly, as someone in the past removed it and built a cheap and ugly bench seat in its place. needless to say, the bench seat wont work for what i want. i have not been able to find a pic of what the original design looks like, but my brother and i have come up with a plan to put two WISE jump seats in the corners and build a new dogbox over the engine.(removable, of course!) the upholstery is all cracked, the wood(teak?) on the swim ladder, boarding panels on the sides and the (ski locker?) panel on the floor are sun-bleached and faded. basically, it needs some TLC on the interior. luckily it floats and the engine runs. also i have found a few cracks and small holes(maybe from tree branches?) on the top of the boat.
i realize that boat rebuilds are not cheap, but i am looking for the most cost effective repairs for these small spots on the top of the boat. we have found 3 or 4 of them on the whole boat and the biggest is half the size of a dime. can i use bondo and then what to finish it so it blends in with the rest of the boat? or would fiberglass resin and cloth be a better route to take to fill it in?
also, need to find a windshield stop so the windshield doesn't strike the boat when it is open. apparently this has been missing for a while, the pass-through windshield has been marking the fiberglass for a little while now.
the engine cover is planned to be framed out with aluminum angle stock and plated with 3/8 in. plywood, then covered with foam padding and vinyl. does anyone have any thoughts on a good sound insulator for the inside of this box? i want to try to keep the engine noise down as much as possible, as my kids will be riding next to the engine when we go out.
thank you all for any helpful advise you all can provide!
