The joint venture with Volvo didn't even start until 94, yours is way to early. All OMC.

I cannot believe it has been 9 years since this last post but i have somewhat of an update. This bad boy has a new transom, floor/stringers, engine rebuilt/installed, new carpet, some upholstery, boat seat pedestals, and some others. I do have a couple final touches i need help with. The OMC cobra side mount control box is in pretty rough shape. Can I purchase a replacement? I've found a bunch of used ones on ebay but that doesn't seem like it will be much better than what i'm working with now. Any help is greatly appreciated!

OK, so I found a little hope today while waiting for responses on here (good thing I wasn't holding my breath)! If anyone else is looking, it seems that you can buy individual parts here and although the one i need is pretty expensive, it seems that most of them are available.

It really depends on what you are having to replace with the control, if it just needs the trim and neutral safety switches that's an easy repair but if more than that, I don't think I'd be trying to take one of those apart. Seems like an exercise in frustration. There are a number of good aftermarket controls that are adaptable to Merc, Volvo or OMC engines. I picked up a Teleflex (Seastar) CH-1700 for mine which I have seen as used as OE on a number of Volvo Penta powered boats. I haven't installed it yet but will in the fall when I take the coming panel off to fix some more rotted wood....
Also BRP does make a concealed control but for some reason in the marketing information it says its not for sterndrives.

More updates.....we have a cracked block (lots of finger pointing going on at this point). Bottom line is that it needs a new engine and they're tough to find. Any help finding a replacement would be greatly appreciated.

Ayuh,..... 4.3ls are a dime a dozen,......
Easiest swap would be another 1990, but 'bout any 4.3l can be used, once the upgrades are dealt with,.....

I suggest a late model with Vortec heads,....
You'll need to adapt to an electric fuel pump, 'n a new intake manifold,....
