1988 Imperial 27 ft

Hey guys looking for some info..<br />Just purchased this 1988 imperial 27 ft and the engine I think is a 350 volvo penta. Its got a tag on thee outdrive that reads 290.. engine is red and I think iits got a 4 barrel carb quadrajet I think.. Any info would be greatly appreaciated

Sounds like you have an AQ 271A or B there. Look around on the block (over the starter) and see if you have a metal tag rivited to the block.<br />There is usually a decal on the plastic cover over the flame arrester that has the model number on it also.

um I wont see the engine for a couple of weeks its stored about two hrs away. The air cleaner cover says volvo penta. I was told its a 290 horse engine. theres a tag as I say on the otdrive that reads 290..

Then maybe it's an AQ 290, you really need to look at it and tell us what you have, we could guess all day and unless you have the answer all you have is guesses.<br />The AQ290 had 290 flywheel horsepower, not propshaft horsepower that the engines are rated at now. Take that same 290hp engine and change it to a propshaft hp rating and you would be around 260 like all the other 5.7L 350's with 4bbl carbs of that era.<br />They also used the 290 drive on gas engines from the 3.0L to 7.4L to diesels, so that doesn't help identify the engine at all<br /><br /> AQ 290

the Aq271 a or b lok to be in the 86 years. mine is a 88.. I was thinking maybe Aq 311 B.<br />Not sure.. its for 88

Volvo would use the same engine make for several years, and just because the boat is an 88 doesn't mean the boat manufacturer didn't use an engine package he had left over from the previous year.<br />The boat manufacturers usually order a number of engines per year, and if they are all not sold they use them the next year.<br />Also, look at the HIN of your boat, the last numbers are the month and year of your boat. A boat made in the early part of 88 probably has an 87 engine/drive package.
