Recently bought a old bass boat with a 1987 mercury 150 xr2 blackmax, was sitting for about a year, the lower end was rebuilt 2 years ago. Started right up once I learned how the key enricher works but misses a bit when idling. Fuel is good I put sea foam in it, fuel filter and hosing looks good, hit the carbs with carb cleaner, the spark plugs look fairly new. I am new to outboards and would appreciate any advice on trouble shooting.

Gee, if it were me, I would change the gear oil, replace the impeller, wearplate and two gaskets, clean the carbs and check the ign timing.

Post the results of a compression test BEFORE spending any $$$$ on it.

I assumed the impeller would be good because they had rebuild the lower end and didn't really use it after that. I ran it for about 10 minutes with a good amount of throttle and it stopped missing after a while. It also didn't get very hot at all but I was planning on replacing the impeller any way.

Gee, the impeller may be good, the carbs may be clean and the timing may be right. However, the motor setting for any length of time often causes or worsens the condition of the carbs and impeller. Any of those not working or not set correctly can ruin the motor.
