Just bought a 1987 Bayliner 14 capri with a 50 hp force motor.. Motor starts fine, but seems to be starved for fuel..can not get boat to plane and much over 20 mph.. when I pump on the bulb it does seem to increase the performance.. used brand new gas. do you have any ideas.. What performance should I get from the engine.. Ie top speed. The plugs seem to be fine.

thanks

One of the biggest problems with getting a motor used is that the person before you did not put it away correctly for the winter. This means running out the gas, fogging the motor, draining and replacing the lower unit, etc. Your problem could be fuel or electrical. The cheapest things to start with is to rebuild the fuel pump and carb ( about 25 bucks) and replace all the fuel line. If the performance is better when you hit the primer bulb it could be the float in the carb just needs adjusting. If you are going to adjust it you may as well rebuild it. The fuel pump is simple to rebuild. New diaphram and gasket and you are done.

i agree with eurolarva.
as far as speed, dont expect too much, but it should do ok. i have a 85 14ft capri, when i had the force 50hp on it the top speed was 27mph.
let us know how it does! :)
