New to me boat with a 1986 Force 85 hp. I am going to change the oil this weekend on it. I looked at it yesterday and noticed there are two plugs that are side by side on the top area of the foot. Am I missing something? Is there another plug on bottom to drain it? The two plugs up top say vent and fill. How would I go about changing the oil with it like this? My assumption is only if there is a drain plug on bottom. Then plug bottom drain and open vent and then fill from the fill up top right next to the vent. Is that correct?

Yes that is correct. There is an Allen screw at the bottom of the drive. That's the drain plug.

No Title

photo265881.jpg photo265881.jpg Most, not all, Force 85 and 125 manufactured in the mid and late 80's have two plugs above the "Bullet" and another Allen screw at the very bottom of the "Bullet". DO NOT CONFUSE THE SHIFT PIN OR CLUTCH PIN FOR THE DRAIN PLUG. The clutch pin is slotted head and located on the side and forward of the bullet, while the drain plug is at the BOTTOM forward of the bullet.

On some models, there is no drain plug. Instead you will have to pump out the oil as much as you can using the fill plug.

If someone's painted the drive??
They maybe filled in the hole for the allen head set screw?

I had a customer who stripped the screw and didn't want me to fix it??
But wanted the oil changed.
I was changing the impeller anyway so I just removed the 2 screws and turned the drive upside down and let it drain.

Filling: it says fill and vent.
I pump it in till it comes out the vent and then pump it in from the vent till it comes out the fill.
It takes a bit more oil but I know the drive is full and shouldn't have a problem.
