i have worked on a couple of valve bodies with the briggs carberator seal. they did not appear to be flattenning out under pressure, swelling from being soaked in oil, or growing soft from additives . Whatever they are made from it appears to be a good grade of rubber that is up to the task of handling the check valve seat.
