I just bought a 23 foot sailboat with this motor on the back. The previous owner has reciepts for a complete overhaul last year, but I see he left the leg in the water for several months at some point as evidenced from the barnacle residue. I think he then started the motor before cleaning the barnacles and fried the impeller. The motor starts right up and runs great, but there is no pee stream. I can feel air coming from the pee hole. I just wonder how much damage could have been done by running the motor like this. The oil looks clean. Also, when I drop the lower to inspect/replace the impleller, do I drop the bottom section or the section more near the power head, and is it s difficult job since I have never worked on a honda before but have done several OMC motors over the years.
thanks,
dave.

If air is coming out of the pee hole, the impeller is working (still should be replaced though) but it's not priming. You either need to drop the engine lower in the water, or you have a problem between the water pick-up and the impeller (loose tube, clogged tube, cracks/hole in tube, etc.) From what you've said, my guess would be barnacles in the water pick-up tube.
