I have a 1978 Sea Ray 197Srv with a mercruiser 470 engine. I am wondering if anyone knows what starter goes with this motor. I am trying to replace it and can't find one. A website/model or p/n would be greatly appreciated also. thanks, Joe

If you still have the old and or bad one just have it rebuilt. They are just as reliable and last just as long (any electrical motor repair shops) Good luck!

OK the starter for that motor is no longer made, it has been replaced by a new model 50-97499R3, which may also be no longer available:mad:. But the good news, there is a brand new permanent magnet gear reduction starter available part # 2-2591-DR-2. You can find it here: http://www.motorcityreman.com/memaoe5050502.html , or your local auto parts place should be able to get it for you. It is a marine rated starter. The new PMGR starter is only about 2/3 the size of the old one and does not require the brace, so it is a snap to install. Now you may not have a solenoid mounted on your starter, but that is no problem. Just wire your block mounted solenoid as a slave and you should be OK. Should be able to help with the wiring if you need it. Good luck.
