1974 Chieftian Fuel Tanks

A friend and I recently brought home a 1974 Chieftian in kit form. The previous owner had gutted the boat for a hull up restoration. We have all the parts and pieces but the dual gas tanks. So I have two questions.

Can anyone provide us with the demisons of the tanks?

As an alternative we are considering changing the configuaration to one tank and locate it in front of the engine cover. A custom built 55 gallon tank would fit but extend 5 inches above the existing deck. Would it be reasonable to raise the deck for a flush fit? Would this effect the handling of our boat?

If ur still in need of this info. please post back what size Chieftain??? Are u building seat boxes or are they made already or using exsisting ones??? A friend of mine just put a tank in his Cheiftain and I can obtain all nessecary info. u need...

I have two fuel tanks from a 1973 24' 10" Starcraft CF which appear to be in good shape complete with sending units...that I was going to eBay them later in the month, or as soon as I can organize all the parts I am going to upgrade from my Starcraft that is finally ready for the big one.

I decided to completely rebuild my '73 Starcraft Islander/CF to make her better than new with the best of new technology without forgetting lessons learned from the past 35 years....the great Starcraft hull stays and the very old tired cabinets, refrigerator, head, particle board bulkheads, helm, console, sink, two burner alcohol stove and upholstery have to go. Out with the old v8 power plant to install a turn-key new 4.3L Mercruiser MPI 220 hp with new Bravo 3 SS(2) with Seacore and all new custom interior and exterior plus electronics....etc..this will be my new adventure...for the next 35 years.

Oh - $10 for the pair....since you have a starcraft. If you can not aford that then they are free - pick them up soon ~calvin
