Hey guys. Been reading some threads and figured this would be a good site for my questions. I just got a 1971 v 166 , noticed the floor was soft, after I pulled that up noticed a couple of spots of rot on the stringers, transom seems fine. Can I just replace the rot(probably 2-4 inches in length) also fiberglass on stringers stops about an inch or so from the transom, is this right or should it join to the fiberglass on the transom

Pics really help us to help you. Boats of this vintage with soft spots in the deck, usually have a lot more issues that what is described. I'd recommend a LOT more investigation.

Re: 1971 Glastron V 166 restore

Thanx woodonglass... I will post pics tomorrow afternoon. I have torn up the entire floor and the damage I described is it. You wouldn't believe this boat, looks like it never saw the water much at all, looks like the damage I described was just neglect from the previous owner nt keeping it covered the last couple of years. The hull is pristine . Looks like new. Seriously looks like it was never loaded or unloaded. Upholstery all original and in excellent shape other than a little dry rot on the dash

Woodonglass thanx for the advice. Checked further on the stringers and they are shot. Fiber glass on outside good and solid but I made a hole and the wood inside is rotted. Tried to post pics but it says failed to load. Can I sister the stringer and fiberglass or do I need to split the glass ,remove the wood and reglass. This is my first boat and I appreciate you starting me out right and telling me to investigate more.
