1971 Evinrude 6102 Oil Level

Greetings,

I've just had a successful trial start of my new-to-me 71 Evinrude 6hp.

Before I put the boat on the lake though, I would love to check the oil level in the lower unit to make sure there's enough. I found the "oil level" plug, but it seems to be rather stuck.

Is there a trick/secret to getting that plug open?

Use a hand held impact screwdriver (with a hammer of course) to free and tighten those screws.

If a philip's screw exists at the lower portion of the lower unit, DO NOT REMOVE IT and that screw is a long shoulder type piviot pin for the internal shift lever.
