Having alittle trouble Starting it.idles well once started.New fuel pump.Carb kit installed wires ,plugs replaced points adjusted.Good spark.Would or could the timing of the points opening be off which may cause hard starting?

Is the choke closing all the way? Are you opening the throttle enough (about half way, don't trust the markings on the tiller)? Are you waiting for the carb to fill after pumping the bulb?

Yes I make sure the bowl is full.Appears choke is closed and this motor when the choke is pulled it gives more throttle also. This motor has no tiller it is set up with a knob and it uses controls, but I am running in barrel..The knob is hard to keep in position due to the constant pulling on the rope so that causes an issue. If the controls were on that would help hold throttle in place, but with the choke giving it that extra throttle anyway the knob issue only matters after starting warm.Would advancing or retarding the points opening make a difference if fuel delivery is ok?

The motor should have a idle stop so you can pull the rope and the throttle wont back off..Just below where the throttle cable hooks up to the motor there should be a screw with a spring.. It may be a plastic screw..

Yes it has the nylon screw like my newer 20hp and it is firmly seized in the threads and I can't get it to move.Probably will break off with any further attempts to loosen.
