I have a 65' 15' fiberglass Starcraft. Currently on the boat I have a 65 horse which moves great with two people in the boat. The weight limit in my boat is 750 pounds.

If you want to get technical about it this link will bring you to the federal regulations set forth by the coast guard for boat builders as far as boat capacity goes. Make sure you have your scientific calculator ready it gets pretty complicated. http://www.uscgboating.org/safety/boatbuilder/index.htm Hopefully someone on here will have a boat just like yours with a capacity plate on it. A lot of states made you send in your boat measurements so you’d have a capacity plate for your older boat.

A 14-foot Starcraft, open hull with a side console would probably have no more than 40hp on it.

Does it look like our '67?

It use to have cable/pulley steering and a 3/4 length flip-up bench seat.

Max HP on tag is 40hp. Don't remember the person or weight capacity.

The boat was bought new by my father and has remained in the family. I redid the floor, seating, steering, etc last winter. Its been a good fishing boat.

Nice setup, John S.

My borother in law has a 14' Aluminum Starcraft with a new 2 Stroke 25HP Johnson. He is very satisfied. If I were running around the Ocean inlets, I would rather have the 40HP.

I don't think the boat will go much faster with the 40 unless you are pulling something or carrying a heavy load.

Over the years, we have had a number of motors on this boat. 1950's Johnson 25, 1950's Evinrude 35, 1976 Johnson 35, and this Nissan. For pulling power the 50's 35 Evinrude was the best. Pulled 2 ski skiers with no problem. Don't use it for that anymore, but the nissan struggles to get a 2 ski skier up. I believe the difference is just displacement. Those old 50's engines had more cu in than todays engines.

A 25 should be fine, 2 people light gear. We normally fish 2 people and quite a bit of gear. Sometimes 3 people. The 2-stroke, 2 cyl, nissan works well, without changing props, and probably weighs the same a a 25 4-stroke, maybe less.

Been a while since I last was here. II have a 16ft deepv.

I actually rebuilt it from ground zero. I have a 65 with a ten horse kicker. A total of four batteries. two in front and two in rear.

I can get her up to about 35mph. Which is fast enough on Ohio waters. Have been told i could safely go up to an 85.
