Hello all,
I bought this 16' Aluminum 1965 Starcraft from a guy in Rhode Island last spring. I ran it all Summer with a Johnson 40hp and it was great. I love it so much I decided to start fixing it up. The biggest problem I have right now is that I have no idea what type of Starcraft the boat it is. I am going up to where I store it on Monday to get the number on the plate. For now I am going to try to get my pictures to post (I haven't done this forum thing until now). Maybe you expert guys out there wil know what it is. My other question is this. All last year my friend and I would go out fishing. When we lean over or both stand on the port side the boat tips horribly. It doesn't take on water or anything but it tips enough that you might fall over. On the starboard side, however, with the steering column, you can sit on the side of the boat with no problem. I am a 300lb guy too! The Anchor and the Battery are both on the port side, and at first I chalked the problem up to that, and we learned to live with it. Then I was reading about waterlogged buoyancy foam and I thought that this might be my problem. The boat doesn't leak at all, but it has always been stored outside, and uncovered I believe. Could this be my problem, or is it something else? After all, the battery and anchor only weigh probably 80lbs max. I can't imagine that that little amount of weight would offset 550lbs of me and my friend on the starboard side. Any help would be much appreciated. I am thinking of replacing the floor this year anyway. Is there foam under there? Also, I put in my e-mail link in case anyone wants to send me any info.

Looks like a Jupiter model to me that has been repainted at least once. Have fun!

Re: 1965 Unknown Starcraft Help

Thanks,
The only thing about it being a Jupiter is that most of the Jupiter models I have seen online have what looks like a rear deck and a strip of trim down the side. This one doesn't have either. Would they have made some models this way? I have since retrieved the serial number on the transom and it turned out to be a Massachusetts issued serial number. I am assuming it was junked at some point, stolen, or the number plate was lost. Of course the plate number on the trailer was missing as well, so maybe it was stolen!
I am looking for a new trailer now, as my axle broke. I of course can't find the weight since I can't figure out the model for sure. Do you think the weights of the Aluminum 1972 16' Starcraft models are similar? I have found specs for those on the fiberglassics site.

I have learned so much here, who needs to buy books?

Charles,
You're from Shrewsburry, MA. Do you know of any good inexpensive local trailer builders in New England?

Re: 1965 Unknown Starcraft Help

there is flotation foam underthere...i dont know if thats your problem, but the foam under the deck in my starcraft was SOAKED when i removed the old deck....so its possible yours is too....if thats the case that moisture is trouble for the transom and the deck (both were rotten in my case)
