Re: 1963 28hp super seahorse high rev troublshooting help

is this thread dead... if not.
I took the carb off and I think the previous owner had messed with it. the high speed needle (oldybutagoody) was turned out too far for it to close when the knob was as far as it would go. the adjustment knob should be able to close the needle completly correct?
I will try it out in the morning and let anyone who is still here know whats up.
thanks again guys

I'm still following your progress, but I can't offer much help. Reply's are probably a little slow due to the holiday. Lots of folks take vacations around the 4th. FYI. Check your email. I resent the service manual.

That could be. Is there a "stop" that limits how much you can turn the needle? I just remove those until I get it dialed in. You do have to turn the needle in until it bottoms and then out 3/4 turn. Thats the only way to know where the needle actually is. Once you get the high speed needle adjusted, which has to be done on the boat, in the water, at full throttle, in gear. THEN you can replace the limiter to confine the amount the needle turns. ( I in fact just leave them off.) Once you get that needle set, you shouldn't have to monkey with it except for small adjustments due to air temp, etc. I would put money down that your problem is just the high speed needle out too far which makes it hardly run, if at all. You'll be amazed how the engine will come to life as you turn it in to where it needs to be.

yes there is a stop that limits the knob I have them off for now but now when i prime my fuel line, fuel flows from the hole in the top of the carb i believ it is an overflow but that means my needle and seat is worn or my float isnt floating right? the float looks good not oil soaked still floats in a cup of gas. the needle looks good and so does the seat but i geuss i will try replacing them , can u still get these or will i have to "find" one that fits it is a 63......

Get a carb kit with a float - they are available. Make sure the float is adjusted properly. It should be parallel with the carb body, or bent a little bit higher (when upside down) so that it closes before fuel runs out the overflow.
