I'm going to have a look at an 18' plywood construction boat built in 1960 which is fitted with a 1960 evinrude 75hp outboard. The boat has not been used for many years and has been stored under cover. Claimed to have only done 100 hours work.

Picture of boat shows a nice varnished finish with white painted bottom and a half cabin also in varnished finish.

New to outboards this old, but was the 1960 75hp a good motor? If it has been stored properly with only 100 hours use, after the usual maintenance, could I expect reliable service on a motor of this age?

I guess prices vary worldwide, but asking price for this outfit is about US 2,400. Allowing a value of US 750 - 1,300 for the boat and trailer, does the rest seem fair for a motor of this model and age?

A 45 yr old boat and motor, unless it's pristine, turnkey, and collectable, would only fetch a few hundred dollars if it was salvageable. I would look around a bit more for comparison.
Good luck

Valid point - new info is that the motor is a 1961 electric start 75hp evinrude (I understand the first of these to come out?), but also that the steering system and forward controls have been partially dismantalled for maintenance meaning the boat needs repainting etc. etc. and it is certainly no sure go instant proposition.

I'm sure value is different on the other side of the planet, but $2400 US dollars would put me in a much later model that is ready to go! Shop around.....

Those old motors were strong but they loved the gas. I have a good one hanging in my garage because I couldn't afford the amount of gas she drank.
