Points CLEAN? By clean, I mean shiny and spotless! Gapped to .020"? Are the condensers the original fiber capped one or newer rubber capped? What type of plug wires do you have - they MUST be metallic core. Plugs are Champion J6C's, gapped to .030"? Originally called for J4J (J4C currently), but many folks, myself included, feel the new fuels work better with the slightly hotter plug.

not shiny clean i used 800 grits sand paper and got the black off them , i think i was sold j8 champion yes i gapped them at 030 , it didn't have spark when I got it and after getting to the coils I saw that they where bad , i also checked the points gap at 020 , when i get back home i will recheck it all again , seems like it has to be a minor problem as simple as the ignition is , the wires have a wire core i checked for continuity between the coil and the boot and it checked out.

Black points?? I'd lay odds that that is where the trouble is. Try re-cleaning them. Of course there is the possibility that you have the coil wires going to the wrong set of points, of some other sort of mistake that we can't see from here.

Evidently you have some sort of continuity tester. Resistance across the points must be zero when they are closed, and infinity when they are open (coil & condenser wires removed). Not an ohm or two, but ZERO ohms. Not all multimeters can tell the difference.

After dressing the points, I like to dip paper stock, or business card in acetone, and run that through the points to clean. Very often you will see black streaks on the paper indicating that the points were dirty and the cause of the problem. They need to be spotless to run properly. When done, blow off with compressed air to ensure no fibres are on the points from the paper.

OEM number is 439071, includes a new float. Get it from an Evinrude dealer. OR, Sierra Marine part number 18-7043, does not include a new float. Get it right here at iboats.

Not getting fuel to the spark? Or not getting fuel to the carb? If fuel is not getting to the carb, could be a stuck float. If the tank is working properly and the primer button is pushing fuel through the lines, then you need to look into the carb. Kit available through Iboats is Sierra 18-7043. That kit doesn't include the float.
