I am a first time boat buyer in SW Florida, and am searching for a 19-21 foot center console. I came across the Caravelle 210cc at a boat show locally and loved the layout and features of the boat, but don't know much about the manufacturers reputation. Also, this particular boat, a 2002, comes with a T-top/rocket launchers, 150 yamaha saltwater series, leaning post, etc and the asking price is $25,500...any thoughts on a fair price to settle on with a dealer??? (Need a trailer thrown in). Is 150hp enough to power a 3200 lb boat, plus gas?

thanks for any help!

I don't know about Caravelle, but it seems kinda pricey.Have you looked at Angler's 20'CC.A dealer up in Deerfield Beach has a 20' with 150HP Yamaha for $19,860 plus prep and freight. just as a comparison. There is a dealer in Sarasota www.hiddenharbormarine.com
that sells Anglers might be worth a look if you haven't been there. ;)

Would feel more comfortable with a 200 on a 21 footer, if you can afford it...

A center console in that size should work out great in FL! The saltwater Caravelles don't seem to be real popular. Maybe with reason. Unless your dealer is outstanding, some caution may be in order. Since that boat is rated for a 225, this 150 sounds like the minimum size just in order to low-ball the price. Try it on the water to be sure.

There are lots of low to mid price center consoles to shop. Such as Angler, Cape Horn, KenCraft, Key West, and May-Craft. Just to touch on a few.

You will find plenty of posts on center consoles at these sites -
www.anglerworld.com
www.floridasportsman.com
www.thehulltruth.com

Good luck,
Kelly Cook

Re: 19'-21' center console

I bought a 21' hydra-sports WA 2001 model last year. I paid about the same as your CC.
by the time I was done with all the electronics and trailer +tax we were in the low $32K. My boat weighs 3400lb + fuel and gear powered by an Evinrude Fitch 150. When the conditions are picture perfect with mirror like water its not fast enough (40mph), but normally with the average chop and 1-2' surf its just fine. I asked about an engine upgrade when I was buying. My dealer told me he would not recommend the 200 because it will lift the boat out of the water too much. End result would eat up the lower end by jumping in and out of the water too much.

This is our first boat and last year was our first season at it. All I can tell you is I wish it had a bit more umph to it, but I wouldn't like the idea of burning through lower gear cases. The boat really is fast enough except on those exceptional days.

BUT, I would just like to add this. After one season we wish we had bought a bigger boat. If you have the cash I would be looking at 23-25' instead of a 21'. Do it right the first time. We figure one or two more seasons and we'll upgrade.

Sounds like min. power to me I would go mid range 175/200 hp. When you add the extra wt. batteries 100,fuel 600,people 800 etc. figure the extra wt.

Welcome Gatorperk

Another thing to consider, you mentioned dealer's asking price and throwing a trailer in...

There isn't as much markup on most boat/motor/trailer package as there is on cars/trucks. You gotta have a car but you don't have to have a boat, most mfgs keep prices closer to the bone to entice sales. So there is less wiggle room on price. You can get some great deals the rigging items (Big mark-up on parts and acces.) such as lighting, guages, covers and the like. You can get all the labor free and some of the products free as well or at least at substantial discounts.

I am finalizing deal on a boat right now )Monday is THE day) and and I made a very long list of anything I would ever want on the boat, list everything even things you're not sure of so you have things to throw back. I was VERY surprised at the deal I got on the extras! Who cares where the savings come from as long as they come & you're going to get the stuff anyway might as well get a deal.

You said this is your first boat, I had years to wish I had this or that on previous boats. So pour over online marine stores, catalogs and mags. Have a realistic list mfgs names and part #'s. (Make sure they are for a glass CC boat - haha) Ah yessir I want one of them there white sails with the purple pipin and frindge :D

Hey good luck, have fun boatins-a-blast ;) And fishin from your own boat AHHHHHHHH can't get enough of it!!!
