Bought 18 H.P. ser. # 15020 15104 from friend it had good care but it set for two years. Starts and runs great, but little or no water out hole on back of leg about half way down with ears. motor temp. taken with infared temp. gun gets to about 180 f. and I shut it down. With engine in barrel a little water comes out hole at back and water comes out 1/4 in. hole on side of leg at the same level as hole at the back. motor still gets hot. Checked water pump looked o. k. Grommet at top of water tube not great but should leak little or none. Water level in barrel about 1 in. to 2 in. above water pump. All testing done with motor in neutral. Would that make a difference. Also what year is this. First time here. Thanks

It is a 1957. I think the 1/4" hole is for the ears on the water tube grommet. Shouldn't be leaking there. I would be skeptical about the water pump "looking good". Are you sure?

It should put out a healthy spray at slow idle, in neutral or in gear.

Is this the ears for the grommet on the top end of the water tube. If so how do you check it and repair it. Is this the grommet listed in NAPA under water pump repair kit #18-3377 part #302497 or is that the bottom grommet. much thanks I needed all the help I can get.

The upper and lower grommets are the same. The upper one is a pain to replace because you can't get your hands up in there. There was a special tool to do it with, otherwise you have to do with whatever you can devise. Something to hang onto it with and something to poke it with, etc. It isn't hard to get in, just hard to get to.
