16' Super Sport Max HP Rating Question

I have a 1974 16' Super Sport that I'm restoring and it's data plate clearly states the Max Hp Rating at 85HP. However, I noticed that at some point, perhaps sometime in the late 70's or early 80's, the same 16' SuperSport Models were rated at a Max HP of 90HP. Does anyone know exactly when this happened and more importantly, why Starcraft was able to up the Max HP Rating to 90HP for the same design?

I think it had more to do with the motors being rated differently (the 85hp became a 90hp - same motor, different rating) than the boats changing. When the boats were designed, OMC made a V4 80 and 85hp (late 1960s). In the early 1980s the same motor was re-rated to 90hp. I think the manufacturers simply re-rated the boats so that they could continue to use that size motor as a power option...
