Just got a 1990 15hp evinrude for my 14ft lowe... i am wondering what the highest pitch prop anyone has run on these.

I found a 12 on craigslist but missed out on buying it. Pirhana prop makes a 10x11 and has a 10x13 that will fit the hub for it. What do you guys think this will do if I run it?

Thank you,

Re: 15HP Evinrude

You have to hook up a tach to test your rpm's. Changing the pitch of the prop will change your rpms, and either go above or below the recomended WOT. Both are bad. If the boat is already within the correct range, stick with what you have.

We have a rebuilt 1981 model on a 330 lb Lyman-like boat with lift strakes. Runs 26 mph turning a Pro-Tec 11" pitch. Motor sits 17 3/4" high on transom but prop blades are very thick, hard to cup. The Lowe is light and fast, a 13' runs over 30 mph with an old Mercury Mark 25 (20 hp). Thye best prop would be a Solas Saturn 11" pitch, but be sure the motor's jacked up to at least 17 1/2" high. Also, best to run 25:1 oil because the 15 will easily turn 6500 RPM. The initial advice of 50:1 was a mistake.

Thanks, a tach sounds like a good start.

You guys recomend one?

25:1 seems like a reasonably Idea. You run this setup Torbjorn?

Tiny Tach is reasonable and easy to install. One for your motor will work on any similar 2 stroke.Be sure to read the description. It uses pulses from a plug wire.
I usually recommend raising the motor to a point just before venting(cavitation) becomes a problem.

I've run the shortshaft at 19" (not a fishing boat ...), no problem picking up water. Actually, that design will pick up water when you jack the motor up to nearly split-bullet.

Good tach: Seedoo, runs on internal battery, one wire around spark plug, the other to ground. Can tape the tach to the carrying handle of the motor. I have one for our 15 and also 35.
