Got a 15hp Evinrude Model E15RCIS (not sure of last two letters may be 1 and a 5). S/N 0003031. Question what year is it? Also is the water pump working OK. Get a slight mist from hole about halve way down back of motor with motor running at fast idle, not in gear and in a tank. Have not had time to run for a longer time and check the head with temp gun. When I do check it about what temp should the head temp be? Would about 140f be about right? Thanks for any help.

If you question the condition of the impeller you should change it.
Excellent insurance for a healthy motor. My sofisticated temp tester is a hand carefully placed on the head.To hot to hold your hand on but not so hot it burns you.

As a rule of thumb, you should be able to hold your hand on the cylinder head for the count of three, but steelepike is correct that if you have any doubts, change it. E15RCIS = 1981.

Thanks for the information. Should more than a slight mist come from the hole half way up the back of the motor at idle or will it increase at higher R.P.M. Can't run much over fast idle in my tank. Not sure what to expect. Thanks for your help

It should increase with higher rpm's.
I bought a cheap laser thermometer from harbor freight and checked the temp on a 35hp Johnson I have and the temps were about 143 degrees on both cylinders. So the 140 mark is in the neighborhood you want to be.
