14' Kennedy Kraft taking water at transom

I have a 14' Kennedy that I bought last year. I put a Mercury 40hp classic on the boat earlier this year, installed a steering console and went for test run yesterday.

When I got the boat up on plane and trimmed motor out, I looked back over my shoulder only to see the boat was taking on water at the transom right in front of motor.

Question: How do I correct this? The cavitation plate is about 2" below bottom of boat so is my motor too deep? If so, I have about 1 7/8" that I can raise motor on transom. Would placing a board under motor on the transom stop some of the water intake?

Thanks for any advice.

It appears that your motor is too low with the cavitation plate 2" below.
A Jack Plate would be your best bet so that you could adjust the height of the motor without having to drill new holes in your transom.

Thanks for the advice. I am going to pick up a mini jacker tomorrow. That should do the trick with the 40, shouldnt it?
