I have a 1986 Bayliner Trophy 2160 offshore that has a 131AQ volvo/penta that I want to change to a 5.7 mercruiser alpha one gen one. I have the gimbal changed the 5.7 ready to go, my quetion is will the wiring harness from the volvo work if I cut off the harness plug and splice on the mercruiser plug on the boat side off the wiring harness?

It should, just check what each wire does from in the connection. Bayliner builds their own wiring harnesses and tries to stay with the engine manufacturers color coding, you just need to verify each wire.

Thanks Don I took another look at it today and the colour coding looks prety close to the mercruiser, except the volvo had one wire (#12) going directly from battery to trim tab controls.(orange with red tracer) The merc has three #12 wires in harness red black and orange, I wonder if the orange is the same as the volvo/bayliner wire with the red tracer?
