115 evinude will only go 4 m.ph. help please :(

Hi,<br /><br /> i have a 115 evinrude 85 model vro and on the hose it will rev up but when i put it in the water it will not rev or go. i thought the linkage on the cables were unadjusted but i believe its on the carbs. please give me some suggestions..

Howdy, Tex.<br /><br />What have you done to isolate the problem so far?<br /><br />You are running on only part of your cylinders. Read through a few other threads with the same symptoms. Isolate which cylinders are dead, and find out why.<br /><br />If you still need help then, come on back.<br /><br />Good luck.

Texas.... Four mph eh? That'll make a sklier complain . On the serious side, regardless of what problem one might have, always check the compression and ignition (spark) first. The compression on your engine should be in the range of 100+ psi and even on all cylinders, and the spark (with the s/plugs removed) should jump a 7/16" gap on all cylinders with a strong blue flame.<br /><br />If the above checks out okay, I'd suspect that you have fouled carburetors, or that the timer base (under the flywheel) is sticking (not sliding smoothly up against the full spark advance screw... rubber stop). It's also possible that the "L" shaped linkage to the timer base has come loose which would eliminate any spark advance.<br /><br />Let us know what you find.

Hi,<br />ok i got spark on all cylinders and there firing it will rev up and un smooth int he drive way but and will start and run in the water but just wont accerlate. the carbs are rebuilt but when i took off the silencer and give full throttle the carbs arent opening up at all. i thought when full throttle is engauged they should open all the way the butterflies i mean.

Aha! Butterflies not opening all the way.<br /><br />Get your manual and do the "Link 'n' Synch" throttle linkage and ignition synchronization procedure.<br /><br />Should fix you right up.<br /><br />Good luck.
