What is wrong with the oil pump?
They do not normally fail, maybe trash in tank or oil is jelled up.
Need to drain and clean tank and all lines from time to time just to make sure.
If you are dead set on removing make sure you remove the pump drive shaft so it will not ruin the crankshaft when it seizes up from lack of lub from no oil.
