Hey everybody, 2002 Mercruiser 4.3MPI sn/0M325971 260 hours In a 2002 Brant 188 18 foot bowrider. Recent history: In early July this year Started and ran good first run of the season. Could hit top RPM and was smooth operating at any rpm. Ran it for 40 minutes, was low on fuel so ended...

2001 4.3MPI Single Drain -- Checking Block Scaling

So, drained the ol' single point today using Merc procedure. I had been reading up on this system here, and had got spooked a bit about the block draining fully. So, following recommendations here, I removed the block drain hose connections, no water came out. I used a long allen head wrench...

Removing or Living With Single Point Merc Draining

I have a 4.3 with the single point draining, the one with the Blue Knob at front port quadrant of the engine. Also a blue plug to remove on the thermo housing/intake mani. A pic is below, sorry for the bad angle. I used it last year, temperature here got down to mid teens a couple of times, no...

Need advice on more aggressive prop for my situation

On my boat the 21p basic aluminum will not hold when cornering or even going straight in rough water, or at trim much over 1/4 on the gauge. I know now it is the wrong prop after some research on this size and brand of boat (the one in my sig). I can even get it to blow out on a holeshot if I...

    Mercruiser rear engine mount problems

Changed out engine coupler, putting engine back and the rear bolts don't seem to want to start to thread into the transom mount. I had the exhaust boots lined up, and dropped it on down slowly and got them to plop on. Front mounts were still not down on the stringer, so went down a little...

Help With Lumber Capacities for Engine Hoist Gantry

Building a gantry to use for a hanging a chain hoist that will be used to pull my boat engine. I tried some online calculators but most go into too much engineering details needed and I can't seem to concentrate long enough to glean useful information. Thought maybe some here could help me...

Mercruiser Engine Coupler Failure -- How long do they last question

I guess my main question is, do they (engine couplers) just wear out and spin the rubber part after a while? Or just some of them, like the one I have :grumpy: Mine spun while out on the lake last weekend cruising at near top RPM's, just starting into the 3rd hour of running that day, really...

No denying I have a Sofa Boat now

I have a bench seat all across the back in my latest boat. It is very comfortable, and fully upholstered so not unlike a couch or sofa I guess. And the bottom seat and part of the backrest pulls out into a sofa bed, kinda weird. They lift up from the back to reveal large storage bins.

Getting Critical Server error when accessing Forums main page and others

Today I began getting Critical Server Error -- Check back in 24 hours when trying to get int to forums.iboats.com. I could get in by going to iboats.com and clicking Advice. Then once in every so often when trying to enter a topic would get the same thing. I am pretty sure my dues are paid...

2002 Mercruiser 4.3MPI surging at top RPMs after running a while

While testing the new prop another problem showed up about 30 minutes in. At first all was great, throttle response was good, no surging, could cruise at 4600 - 4800rpm for minutes at a time. Then it began to cut out and surge at anything above 4600, then 4400 then 4000. It seemed to "allow"...

Need help with Mercury High Five replacement

I have a 4.3MPI with a Mercury 19p high 5 prop in the 19 foot bowrider in my sig. It can hit the rev beeper too easily, even for a light load. My thinking would be a 3 blade stainless of some ilk with a 21p. However when I went thru a Prop Wizard with the boat model and year and engine it came...

1980 Mariner 6ycl 90HP stuck in forward after lower unit R&R

Removed lower unit for impeller service. Put shifter in Forward first. When checking the shifting after putting lower back on the prop movement is the same no matter where the lever is. Ratchets when spun clockwise and locks up trying to go counterclockwise like it is still in forward. Normal...

Have not been boating yet this season

Here in North Texas (Denton) early in the season (2015) I was working on the trailer and it took a while to get the right bearings and such. That was ok as my lake of choice, Lake Ray Roberts, was 7 feet low or so at the first of April. Then in late April it filled up within a couple of weeks...
