    Any home brewers out there?

I started home brewing a few years ago and have really enjoyed the challenge and honestly the chemistry. I have always loved creating stuff with my hands, and bringing a same philosophy of independence to the dinner table by way of hunting, fishing, butchering and canning. Brewing beer just...

    Piranha composite modular props

Anyone have any experience with these good, bad, or indifferent? Looks like a pretty neat concept, and easily repairable. Curious for feedback. Mercruiser Alpha 1 outdrive.

    Rochester Quadrajet Rebuild and Adjustments

Figured I’d start a thread to list some of the adjustments I’ll try and information I find to properly tune a Q-jet 4 bbl carb for my 4.3L LX in my 1990 2000SL Sport Chaparral. I bought this remanufactured carburetor from National Carburetor. The original that came on this engine was so...

    3.0L Merc, parts interchangeability

Is there a definitive list of changes over the years for the ole Iron Duke? Something that lists this head has these port sizes will only work with this manifold, etc. I think for the most part the 3.0 blocks are interchangeable with exception of the ring gear being different pre 90 vs post. It...

    Engine coupler

Can anyone tell me the difference between an 18643A5 coupler, and the 18643A8 coupler? Serial number for the 350 magnum is D808410 which leads me to the A8. Many sites show this as discontinued. The A5 seems to cover the year this engine was built. Is the A5 just an updated design or material?

    Mobile device issues

I wanted to start a list of issues that I’m noticing when accessing iBoats forum or the online store via a mobile device. I use an iphone7 with the latest iOS. One of the issues I fight with is resizing of certain posts. The edges of the post are larger than the screen. Resizing by pinching...

    Mercruiser power trim hoses

1990 Mercruiser 4.3LX, Alpha 1, Generation 1. I just discovered an oil leak that I think is coming from the hydraulic lines that pass through the transom plate. I think the leak is right where the hose is crimped to the stainless steel tube at the transom plate. This is a little discouraging...

    1978 Johnson 85hp price

Hi everyone. I just want to get an idea of what I should ask when selling my 1978 85 hp manual tilt outboard. It runs great. 125 to 130 psi in every cylinder. New starter this year. Everything else that was replaced only has two seasons of run time. Carbs and fuel pump rebuilt, new fuel lines...

    Thunder on Cocoa Beach.

First day of vacation. We swung into Orlando last night then over to Cape Canaveral for a couple days before our cruise. I couldn't believe my luck......off shore racing boats are in town for Thunder on Cocoa Beach. We watched several awesome machines today hauling tail up and down the coast...

How not to restore a Chaparral 1900SL Sport

I guess maybe this can't be considered a restoration. I'm not sure what you call it... in any event, tub surround is made for bathrooms, not boats. Ironically enough I found this gem, (almost same boat as mine) 3/4 mile from my house. The boat is definitely rotten. I poked the drain hole that...

    Deck hatch recommendations

Anyone have any recommendations for boat hatches. I am looking for white plastic hinged type. The hatches will be walked on so latch handles need to be flush. Obviously they need to by sturdy, and not pose a tripping hazard. I am currently restoring a boat that has a ski locker. I moved the fuel...

    U-joint bellows

I'm just curious, my Alpha I gen I has worm gear clamps on both ends of the u-joint bellows. I have seen a lot of instructions for drives that have the compression ring on the bell housing side of the bellows, but not much for what I have. 1. When did the change to the compression ring take...

    Steel fasteners stuck in aluminum

Anyone have a "magic" bolt freeing juice they use to help free up seized bolts in aluminum. A couple of examples are the stainless hydraulic compression fittings in an aluminum manifold. Also the steel nyloc nut on the aluminum anode bolts that go through the mercruiser gimbal housing. This...

    Gimbal housing to transom

I'm buying a new seal, and anode bolt kit, to mount my gimbal housing to my transom. Just curious if it's necessary or recommended to add sealant to the seal. It doesn't appear as though the gimbal housing had sealant on it when I pulled it off. I was looking for opinions or best practices...

    Aquamarine deck

Anyone use this material as an alternative to carpet? Anyone use a similar product? I'm curious if your happy with it. Was it easy to install? Cost vs. carpet? Any information would be a huge help. Thanks in advance!!

    Peanut Butter

Is there an exact recipe for peanut butter. Obviously polyresin, cabosil, and chopped fibers. Is there a ratio that works best on this stuff or other ingredients? I did a search and looked through the stickies, but really didn't get what I was looking for. Any help is appreciated. Chuck.

    High torque starter question

After reading AllDodge's post a question came to mind. I didn't want to hijack his thread. I replaced and ARCO starter on my 4.3L due to the the planetary gear being stripped. My question is, is there a frequency that I should pull the starter and clean and lube the planetary gear set? The ARCO...

    Dogs love boating!!

Thought I would post some pics of this past Sunday. Temps got to the upper 70's so we decided to take a run on the Potomac river. We also took Maggie Mae, my 8 year old Australian Shepherd. She only fell in once this trip, lol. Nothing like the smell of a wet dog!! I invite you to post pics of...
