    Grady White cracks thru hull

At first I thougt they were stress cracks in gelcoat, but they are hairline cracks that go through. The foam behind is moist. I can't reach from behind. The boat is 24' and these are on one side about 5" high (vertical) just starting at the waterline and running downward every few inches for...

    best fishfinder

I have an older color furuno. Can see bottom ok, never any )fish. I want to upgrade to something that actually works. I fish in salt water--never over 100' deep. What is a solid fishfinder only unit for under $400? (I have a good chartplotter already). Please--only first hand observations...

    stalling after reverse

When coming in to dock, if I need to reverse thrust to slow down, after returning the throttle to neutral the engine will stall. I've replaced the fuel pump. Anyone have any ideas? It's a Johnson 1990 HP VRO 200hp--runs fune anywhere else from 700 to 5300rpm. Thanks

    Engine won't shut down

I posted a question some time ago about a power pack I thought might be bad. I didn't get any responses. Let me approach my problem a little differently. The engine (Johnson 200 '90) won't turn off--I have to choke it to stop it. I have tried shorting almost all of the control wires going...

    power pack NG?

My Johnson 200 (1990) doesn't shut off. I have tried replacing the ignition switch and shorting the yellow/black wire directly on the engine's power pack to ground all to no avail. The manual suggests that this means the power pack needs replacement. My question is this. There should be...

How to release upper gearshift rod?

I have an '90 200hp Johnson. I need to replace the waterpump impeller. Clymer's manual does not well describe how to release the upper end of the shift rod so I can drop the gearcase down. I see a small bracket with a grease fitting on one end and a slotted screw on the other and a hex bolt...

    gas tank protection

What is the best way to protect built in aluminum or steel gas tanks over the winter? Some say you should fill them completely, others say it doesn't matter, but you should add stabilizer. I added a small quantity of 2cycle oil to them (my engine is vro) just to assure minimal lubrication, and...

    fuel tank protection

I've heard different opinions about what is the best thing to do to extend the life of built in fuel (gas) tanks. Should they be filled at the end of the season or should something be added to the fuel, or should I just leave them 1/2 full? These are not mixed with gas, although I put a small...

'90 Johnson 200 HP low speed stall

This engine runs perfectly above 1000 rpm with plenty of power to redline (5000). The problem is I can't keep it from stalling below 1000. Of course, this makes docking interesting to say the least. I'v checked gas and have even premixed incase the VRO is malfunctioning, but it still happens...
