    Replacing clutch on my mini...

Finally getting ready to tackle the clutch on my '14 mini Cooper JCW. Failed after 80k miles, which apparently isn't unusual. Guessing they use the tears of mini owners as the friction material. Would like to have all parts on hand, and trying to figure out what to do while I'm in there...

Just a reminder that summer will be here soon...

And I have a million things to do to get everything ready. But today was too nice to waste being productive. Skiff started on the very first pull after a couple of months of rest. I was so surprised I didn't know what to do (the battery was very dead).

Help winterizing 2013(?) VP 4.3 mpi

Just got down to the river for the weekend, noticed my neighbor's boat still on the lift. Long story short, it hasn't been winterized. We've had a few freezes this year, not sure how cold, but I think engine crackin' temps. I offered to help her pull the boat and winterize. 2 ramps nearby...

    Shift cavity water...

Pulled the drive the other day. Had been dealing with a sticky shift shaft cable that had been worsening throughout the summer. Pulled the drive mid-summer and the cable seemed ok, so I pulled the inner, wiped/dry lubed and replaced (the cable is only about 2 years old, but got dunked with the...

I don't think the heavy stuff is gonna come for quite a while...

Next high tide 8p, might get a little sporty.

    Very loud "thunk" while underway...

'03 25hp 2 stroke merc (no s/n handy, sorry). Cruising today at 3/4 throttle, no problems, and I hear a very loud "thunk" sound, and motor starts to rev. I immediately pulled off the throttle and went to neutral. Engine sounded fine. Shifted into fwd/neutral/fwd. No problems. Went slow for a...

    Source for mooring chain/hardware?

My 1/2" mooring chain let me know today that its lifespan is 15 years... So I figure this is a good time to replace all the hardware. Anyone have a good source for mooring chain/hardware? I've been using big box light chain, since I replace it every couple of years anyway.

    50 amp circuit fail

TL;DR: When the 50 amp breaker trips, does the button pop out? Has anyone had it fail without external evidence of failure? Boat ran perfectly for about a half a day for the first time in 3 years :) Oil pressure gauge started bouncing, noticed fluctuations in voltage at helm, etc. Boat still...

    Windshield hinge pin removal

Just had the hinge on my walk through windshield break. It appears to have an aluminum channel on both the standing and moving part of the windshield held together with pins which both sheared. Now I can't get the remnants out of the channels so that I can replace them. Tried driving them out of...

    Wideband O2 sensor install

Been talking about installing an A/F gauge since putting in the Edelbrock 1409. Since the boat is (for now...) running well, I did "fun" stuff a couple of days ago (shift cable repair wasn't fun I guess). Cleaned the boat for the first time since it was dunked more than a year ago. Polished...

    Odd shift cable fail

Have been having trouble shifting since putting "new" drive on in the spring. Biggest issues were having to pull handle through neutral into reverse to get out of gear. No stalling. Shift cable seemed sticky, I attributed it to another delayed problem after it got swamped (cable was new in...

Cool river sightings 2 days ago...

Every once in a while we'll get some dolphins up here, usually just a few. This year much more than normal, seems that we have a pod coming in from the Chesapeake every few days. Got the skiff in the other day, and rode with them down river for about 7 miles. Hard to tell from the pics, but...

    Turning point hustler 4 blade

From this thread that we hijacked: https://forums.iboats.com/threads/2010-tahoe-q5i-4-3l-will-only-make-3500-3700-rpm-32-mph.767383/ "nola mike said: I only got 42 mph/4400 rpm the other day with my new 4 blade/9 aboard. Haven't tried solo yet, but with old 21p and just me I'm getting 47/4900...

    Merc 2003 25hp 2 stroke, sad 😢

Got the above engine. Not performing as it should. Compression 60 psi in both cylinders. Did a leak down and got 30-35% in both cylinders, though not sure the relevance in a 2 stroke. I'm surprised it's running. Still hits 26-27 mph (previous 28-29), and able to pull kids on skis (not without...

    Any upstate NYers around?

Looking for somewhere to stay for a night on the way to Toronto. Probably somewhere in the vicinity of 219, maybe 1-3 hours south of Niagara falls. Any cool little towns, b&b's, little lakes, etc?

    I need a tool, don't know what it's called...

I'm looking for a cylindrical wire go/no-go type feeler gauge. To measure tiny holes. Would normally use drill bits for this type of thing, I need metric, range of about 1-3 mm in 0.1-0.2mm increments. Not sure how to even search for it, but I'm assuming it exists. "pin gauge" is the closest...

Interesting new on the water fail

So while trying to adjust my shift cable on the water today, just idling around in a heavy current, engine stalls. Couldn't restart, not a hiccup. Jumped fuel pump, which ran but didn't sound "juicy". I'm solo, so couldn't check for fuel when throttle pumped. Checked fuel filter. Seemed less...

    Transducer mounting options?

My depth finder transducer *was* mounted in an unfortunate position directly in line with my lift bunks. When lifting the boat in some chop the other day it landed on the bunk and got loosened up. I was about to remount it but decided that I really don't want those holes in my transom any more...
