The iboats forum moderators are excited to announce that at this time it appears the iboats forums posting pictures function is working once again. Though we cannot promise for how long, we're hoping for indefinitely.
OK, here is the issue . . . overheating, getting warning buzzer when run over 5 min or so. Guage says 5-7 psi, then drops off with acceleration to zero or 1 psi. Obviously, it's supposed to read much higher than that. Same with tale-tell stream. Starts off strong and then weakens. At home...
Forgot to put the plug in last night. Had about a foot of water in the back when I noticed. :o

PANIC -

Started the bilge, layed on my stomach to reach the plug hole to plug it. Finally got it in, with about 2" of free board left before I got swamped. Whew . ...
Bad night tonight. Nothing in the boat. Nothing CLOSE to being in the boat. Saturday, same thing, except got one 6" bass. And I think he was slightly retarded. :p

Need suggestions. . . :(

Salt water/fresh water mix
Mildly stained brown...
83 Evinrude 50 HP

Here are the symptoms . . . all this happens on the water, by the way.

bulb goes soft after running
in line fuel filter from tank to engine goes empty
dies at idle (after a while)
dies in gear (low rpm)
runs rough<br...
I have an older aluminum Tracker (1983) that has a leak somewhere. I am taking on water to the tune of about 3" an hour.
Last night, I put a 500 watt light inside the boat, hoping I could see light coming from a leak - No such luck.
Any suggestions on how to find it? Bailing...
OK, here's the situation . . .

83 50 HP Evinrude - sat out in weather for 4 yrs. Been cleaning - plugs, gas lines, carbs (pulled apart and sprayed lots of carb cleaner, but no rebuild), Seafoam in the gas tank (1 oz. to 1 gallon - 3 gallons), compression 155 & 160, what appears to...
I was fishing off a pier in Florida once and was told by one of the locals that sunblock is a fish repellant. Any truth to this?
I know there are spray on fish attractants (for your lures), so I wonder if sunblock (or mosquito repellant, too) drives 'em away.
<br...
Is there anywhere I can get decent folding boat seats for a bass boat for a lower price?
I need 4 and buying new is expensive. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Jason
Ok, here we go. . . 83 Evinrude 50 hp. Been sitting in the weather for 4 years. Saved it from a family friend.
I ran the motor for a minute or so today, trying to determine the general area that a knocking noise is coming from.
No knock at idle. Starts knocking...
I think I just screwed the pooch - when pulling the lower unit, forgot to put it in reverse as I should have (per clymers manual). Didn't remember until after reinstall. Gears all out of whack. Pulled it back off, pushed the shift shaft down, reinstalled per the manual, got neutral back...
I worry that I'll damage the motor by cranking it after it has sat for 4 years and now the fuel lines are empty. When doing a compression test tonight, it sounded very much like metal on metal.
By cranking it, the fuel/oil will eventually get thru the system, but before that happens...
83 Evinrude 50 hp - left out for 4 yrs. - cleaning it up now.

The carbs are now clean. Not as much gunk as I thought. :D

Did a compression test 155/160 (top/bottom cylinder). That seemed a little high. I don't have any #'s to let me know if that is good or bad...
83 Evinrude 50 hp -
Just replaced impellar and housing. Now the lower unit is a bit out of square on reinstall. Level and all, and seems to be flush, but now is shifted to left about 1/16th of an inch. Is this trouble?

Thanks

Jason
I was told that while I have my lower unit off, I can still check the compression by trying to start the motor. This guy has been pretty reliable, but I wanted some other opinions before I tried it. I can't afford a messed up motor.
Any thoughts on this? Your input is appreciated.<br...
I just talked with the parts/service dept. to get parts for my 83 Evinrude 50hp. He said it possibly isn't anything more than condensation!

Any opinions?

There was an initial stream of clear water (like drinking water) that lasted about 1 full second, then the oil came...
Could anyone recommend a good decarbonizer? I would like a spray in the carb and an additive. ]
Also, is there a good fuel additive that prevents carbonizing?

Thanks, in advance

Jason
I am pretty sure that I have a two stroke engine, but am not 100% sure. Don't have the owners manual, just the Clymers. How can I tell? It has two spark plugs and needs oil mixed. Is that all you need to tell?

I have an 83 Evinrude 50 hp attached to a 17' Bass Tracker Tournament...
I have heard nothing on this board about TCW - II, only TCW - III. Does the III replace the II? Or should I use what the Clymer manual says? Or is the clymer manual (dare I say it?) wrong?
I don't want to damage my motor, so any info would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jason
I need a new battery for my 17' Bass Tracker with '83 Evie 50. Any recommendations? Money is an issue, so please keep that in mind . . . thanks.

Jason
