    Figure it out. Thanks for the help. re-screwed the lower shift rod to the lower unit and that fixed the issue.

    I did read something where you should be able to move the prop with your hand when the boats are off and in neutral. If that's the case then I am unable to do that.

    it is a 1996 model. I am pretty new to boats, but all I know is when I put the lower unit back on, the motor goes right into reverse every time I start it up.

    I fixed the impeller, but sadly now my johnson 25hp motor will not come out of reverse. I can move the gear and it feels like it is changing, but it just keeps reversing. It doesn't appear anything is broken, I am wondering if I put the lower unit in the wrong way.

    There is a chance. The last impeller was torn to shreds. There could've been leftover pieces I didn't clean out causing the issue.

    Impeller Issues

    I installed a new impeller yesterday. When I ran it after installation it pee'd good, however when I took it to water the next day it wasn't peeing anymore. Seems as if the impeller stopped running after one day. Any answers as to why? My motor is a Johnson 25hp 2 stroke.
