    Motor year??

Re: Motor year?? As Bondo mentioned, the serial number tag should be on the block skirt above the starter, 1x2" metal tag riveted onto the engine. Though, I guess someone could have ripped it off... See pic I attached, metal S/N tag should be in the location of the yellow circles, but on the...

Thinning DAP Weldwood Contact Cement ???

What do you use to thin DAP Weldwood Original Contact Cement? Xylene, Toluene, MEK? I have a 1/2 a gallon that's thickened a bit and need to thin it down, so I can use it. I think I've tried acetone and lacquer thinner in the past, but it didn't work as it wouldn't mix in with the contact...

7.5 HP sears gamefisher outboard... aircooled?

Re: 7.5 HP sears gamefisher outboard... aircooled? Sounds like the ignition could be heat sensitive, works when cold, but craps out when hot. Seen it before... Check for spark (with a spark tester) when it dies again. That does look like a "Tecumseh" engine which has an air cooled cylinder...

    Trolling Motor for Tri-hull

Re: Trolling Motor for Tri-hull Mount it the same way they do on fishing boats, following the port side of the bow. I had to make an adapter plate to do this on my ol' 73 SeaSwirl trihull, but it worked well and kept the TM out of the way when not in use. Something like this: (red = adapter...

    Minn Kota Vector 70 - 3X Steering

Re: Minn Kota Vector 70 - 3X Steering What are you looking for, as far as good-bad-ugly? I have a MK 70# Vector 3X and like it, almost everything is a plus on this TM, beefy transom bracket, tilting/extending handle, maximizer digital technology. 2 downsides to this motor that I have...

    Hull Damage from Metal Dock

Re: Hull Damage from Metal Dock Was Elvis a previous owner of that boat?.... :D The damage is in a high wear area, so I would repair it well, unless you wan the repair popping or falling apart. I'd grind out all the loose stuff, feather it out, fiberglass it back up, then top coat it...

filling pinholes in epoxy resin / fiberglass

I 'm building a swim platform and found a bunch of pin holes in the epoxy/fiberglass that I need to fill/seal before priming and painting. What's going to be the best way to fill the pin holes? I tried coating the pin holes with epoxy, but it didn't work as they just came back when I got to...

    Mercruiser 3.0 Electrical problem

Re: Mercruiser 3.0 Electrical problem That's why they say not to solder connections in a boat, the solder creates a hard section in the wire and it can break, just like it did in your pic. That said, I still solder, but use a couple layers of heatshrink to create a strain relief, better than...

Swim platform anti-slip paint additive, what's best?

I'm getting ready to paint a swim platform and trying to figure out what anti-slip paint additive to use, ground walnut shells, play sand, commercial additive. I want something that has grip, but not a 40 grit sandpaper texture. I picked up a bottle of Sharkgrip anti-slip additive from Lowes...

I have a small project of making a couple fiberglass brackets and come to find out, I only have a quart of poly laminating resin. My old gallon of waxed resin was rock hard..... MC-1 trim cylinder rebuild question

I'm going to rebuild the trim cylinders on my MC-1 drive (1972, unknown drive S/N) and I'm wondering if the aft pivot end needs to be unscrewed from the piston rod. Manual #4 (Page 5-19) has the rebuild procedure and it shows the aft pivot end being unscrewed from the piston rod first,then...
