need to replace a 1981 merc prop fast-

Hi guys, I haven't been around for about a year. Okay, still the same outboard, a 1981 25 horse merc, thru hub exhaust, and one banged up prop. I can find two numbers stamped into it between the blades, on one side it read "PS 3511" and the other side reads "PS 9511". if that wasn't...

    gas primer bulb location

quick question, I am in the middle of my rebuild, and have re-located the gas tank to the front of the boat. the boat is a 16' aluminum fishing boat (1981 blue fin lil piker), the outboard is a 25 horse merc of the same year. since I have moved the tank to balance the boat out a bit, where...

    1981 mercury carb ID

I am shopping around for quotes on repair work, and I need to ID my carb if it needs a tune up. one place has warned me that if the carb (for my year) has black plastic float bowls that I might as well junk it because no kits or parts are available anymore. how do I tell if it has the black...

1981 mercury long shaft 25 horse, fix or pitch?

I inherited a 1981 mercury long shaft 25 horse from an idiot that abused it. the clutch is shot, the reverse gear is shot, and it may need a carb rebuild and a new water pump. the guy I have looking at it wants $525 for installing the gear and clutch, and probably $200 for the carb rebuild and...

    fuse set up

(side note, I am getting really tired of being randomly booted off of this site while logged in.) the boat is a aluminum 1981 16' blue fin, outboard so no engine connections. after reading a bit, this is what I have gathered from this site: 8 gauge wire from the battery (in front) to the fuse...

    my trailer, before and after

Re: my trailer, before and after and here, is the after: I replaced everything myself, but I did have it professionally sandblasted first. the only thing I kept was the main steel. everything else went in the trash.

    valspar primer?

I was at the local fleet farm looking for boat (aluminum) primer, and next to the rust-oleum boat primer was valspar, "galvanized metal *and* aluminum primer". does anyone here have an opinion on this stuff?

drain holes in transom "seat" or "sleeve"

16' aluminum boat, wood transom, 1981 blue fin "lil piker" I don't know the correct name for it, but I am wondering if it would be a good idea to make some drainage holes in the sleeve that holds up my transom. I am attaching an older picture of when the rotted transom was still in there...

transom repair: fabric or no fabric?

I am fiberglassing up my transom as I write this. it sucks. my question is, do most people use the fabric AND the resin or do you just wipe on the resin and forgo the fabric? I am wrapping the fabric around the edges, and the stuff wants to continuously bubble at the edges, making me think...

Re: "sealing" a new wood floor in a aluminum boat thanks for the responses! I will read through jasoutside's posts as soon as I get more time. I am attaching another picture, one that was taken before I completely cleaned it out......it was infested with thousands of carpenter ants....... as...

"sealing" a new wood floor in a aluminum boat

I have completely gutted my 1981 16' blue fin, and need to put it back together. this is my first boat project, but I am a machinist of 17+ years, and with plenty of home remodeling experience too. I need advice on replacing this floor. I have heard a good exterior grade is okay to use, but I...

I have inhereted a 1981 16' blue fin, I beleive its called a "lil piker"..... anyway, I have had to gut the entire thing, top to bottom. everything was rotten (moldy) from never being taken care of and years in the elements. The wood had been replaced at least once before (and with the wrong...
