    89 5.0 fuel pump

Just in case someone else goes looking for a fuel pump and comes across this post: I found a Carter 60389 at Walmart.com of all places. $63 delivered to my door. Almost identical to the old one except the inlet and outlet were in a different position. I took it apart and rotated bottom piece so...

    89 5.0 fuel pump

Got a compression gauge from Amazon. Seven cylinders were 125. One cylinder was 115. I had already pulled all of the plugs so I checked each cylinder with all the plugs out, that shouldn't affect the readings should it? Those numbers are lower than what you mentioned, but I put the plugs back...

    89 5.0 fuel pump

I don't know compression numbers. I don't have the tool to test it. You are correct, it is a carter. Has 60651 stamped on the flange where it bolts to engine. I can't find a direct cross reference to this number or the original part number. I managed to find a carter marine fuel pump (M60389)...

    89 5.0 fuel pump

Trying to get boat started and am not getting fuel to carb. I even tried attaching a short piece of fuel line and stuck it in a gas can. Held my thumb over the end of it while cranking, couldn't feel any suction. Can the fuel pump be rebuilt or is it better to just buy a new one? Original part...

    2003 75 ELPTO overheat alarm

As long as motor is running >3000 rpm the alarm never sounds. If you run it for 10-15 minutes below that, the alarm sounds (constant tone); increase throttle back to >3000 rpm the alarm will stop. Previous owner had oil reservoir and water pump replaced trying to fix the problem to no avail...

2002 Sun Tracker 22' pontoon boat

75ELPTO Tracker motor factory aluminum prop, 13.75" x 15 pitch RPMs at WOT 4400 Top speed 20 mph According to motor tag the maximum WOT RPM is 5250. Do I need to change pitch to get closer to the rated max RPM? How would that affect engine performance and speed?

    tilt-trim issues

I followed a troubleshooting guide posted previously by Don S. and it indicates that my relay is bad. My boat is an 89 OMC (502BPRMED) with a one piece relay box that mounts to the hydraulic fluid reservoir and it is a VERY expensive part (https://www.crowleymarine.com/parts/2982.cfm). I saw...

    Motor will not crank

2000 model 4.3 Mercruiser On the lake for several hours boat was running fine and dandy. Stopped to get skier out of the water and engine would not crank, just getting awful grinding noise when starter engaged flywheel. Back at the house I pulled the starter, flywheel teeth look good but the...

    89 OMC 5.0L Ford - no spark

Boat has been running great with no problems whatsoever. Got it in the water, idled away from dock past no-wake sign and gave it full throttle and it died. Now it will not start and I am not getting a spark. I am completely new to working with points ignition so I read through the points system...

    spark plugs for OMC 5.0

Wanting to get new spark plugs so I got on Crowley marine website for the parts breakdown. When I click on the part the little pop-up window lists the most recent part number as 3854400, which superseded 979827 and it says it is a Champion RV15YC4. When I click on the part number to add it to my...

    Impeller replacement

So as I mentioned in another thread I have rectified my shifting issue...YAY!! when I had it out yesterday my temperature gauge was registering quite a bit higher than it was before. I initially chalked it up to the fact that I had recently installed a new temperature sender because the old one...

    shifting issue...

I'll check that measurement also. The only one referenced in the manual is the 7 9/16" from end of brass fitting on the cable jacket to the center of the mounting hole in the casing guide. Although, I was looking through my book (1989 for PWS and PWC Models) and found this in the instructions...

    shifting issue...

I’ll go ahead and post pics of the transom shift cable adjustment too... I have the jigs for the bellcrank alignment (sorry for the sideways photo) and the cable end length adjustment. Does that look right?

    shifting issue...

So I am having issues with my boat going into forward gear. I have an official OMC shop manual and I went through the entire checking and adjusting procedure and I thought it was fixed because it was working great in my backyard. I took it to the lake and sure enough, it won't go into gear. I...

position of boat on trailer and tongue weight

So I looked at the video in the sticky and I understand how important tongue weight is now. As you can see from the pictures the bow of my boat is up against the front bumper (?), the hull is making good contact with the bunks, and the rear of the hull is hanging off the back about 6 inches. I...

    Prop change question...

I have a 20' runabout with a 5.0L V8 engine. Manufacturer's shop manual says WOT should be 4000-4400 RPM. I am currently running a 14-1/2 x 19 prop, WOT is 4200, and top speed is 40 MPH. So everything looks good on those numbers as far as I can tell. Had it out on the water with the wife and...

plug wires for 89 OMC 5.0L Ford

I am needing sparkplug wires for my 89 OMC 5.0L ford v-8. The problem I am running into is finding wires that will plug into my female socket distributor cap. I have searched the part numbers from crowley marine to no avail. Even went to an auto parts store today and their wires fit an HEI (I'm...

    Replacing freeze plugs

I have an 89 model OMC 5.0L that is missing two freeze plugs. I replaced one with the expandable rubber seal type, but the other one is behind the motor mount and the gap is too small to get the freeze plug into. I figure I am going to have to pull the motor to get to it unless someone on here...
