Thanks, good to know! However I kind of figured with electronics :D

    1989 4 CYl. trigger old style(prestolite) vs new style(CDI)

I'm still having issues with a cylinder firing twice and I don't want to damage any more packs. (I read that a faulty pack can damage a trigger & a faulty trigger can damage a pack.) What would be a better route, buy a used one off Fleabay or a new style? Many thanks in advance

Found the problem!! :) :) & how I got there; Nordin, you got me thinking about that blocking diode in these packs; how can I verify this firing issue to see if it's trigger related or pack?? Since the Ohm-readings were good on the trigger, the wires are not shorting-out causing this, SO I...

The way I understand it is that when there's a faulty diode in one of the packs it can cause a no fire (see below) NO FIRE OR INTERMITTENT ON ONE CYLINDER: Check stator and trigger resistance, If readings are good, disconnect kill wire from one pack. If the dead cylinder starts firing, the...

Tonight I'm going to pull the #1 spark-plug out & ground it. run the engine to see if it still does the same thing, IF....it runs (somewhat) smooth like when I had #1 & #2 out, I'm going to change out the CDI box

No, the boxes are used & producing enough voltage to the coils ( 180 V + ) I've tried it with the kill-wires separated ( not touching each other )

Hi Nordin, Thanks for tuning in. I bought CDI Electronics 176-3095 Chrysler/Force/Sears/Gamefinder Stator - 2/3/4/5 Cyl (1984-1992) https://a.co/d/7tOPhzt I have not tried to hook a second battery to the charging part, forgive my ignorance but firing (and/or twice) would this not be a trigger...

Just a word of advise....... Please, please check out the condition of the motor first to see if this is all worth it??? Remember.....this particular boat (and so many other) with a bad motor are only worth the value of the trailer its sitting on.

Once confirmed racerone's suggestions..... Sounds like a fuel issue(on idle) what is the Idle RPM's set at and are all the ports in the carbs properly cleaned / what is your fuel / air mixture screw set at ?

Black oil in pick up tube and water pump.

They are separated(in the lower unit section, when bolted together) the only time I can see oil residue collecting on the P/U-tube would be if the motor was running in a test-tank full of it and sat in for a long period of time (not running) OR the lower crank-seal leaking?

Black oil in pick up tube and water pump.

Thats not what jerryjerry05 is referring to, he's referring to the holes in the lower-unit just below the cavity-plate (3 or 4 on each side, near front)

    1997 90 hp rebuild project

My question; what do you mean by "pivot arm" & why send-out the crank??? My opinion; I would clean-up/hone the worst cylinder-wall first & see if you actually need to get a Re-bore. Also I would only replace one piston (providing the rest are good, what were your compression-readings on them?)
