    Mercury 135 not running

I now have both powerheads removed, as well as the Exhaust and Transmission plate. Both have quite a bit of salt build up that I want to clean up. Any suggestions? Or do I just use INOX and a cloth? Also, what will help soften the gaskets so that I can remove them in preparation for the new ones?

    Mercury 135 not running

So the old broken PowerHead has been removed, and it looks like I will need to drill into the donor one to get it separated.

    Mercury 135 not running

Thanks for the advice, I have tried both and it just won't let go. I have been soaking the studs in WD-40 every night, but as I need to spray upwards, probably not getting the needed penetration. Is there something else that others use to try and remove corrosion from the studs? Also, would...

    Mercury 135 not running

the Powerhead swap out on my Merc 135 is progressing. However I have hit a snag. I have removed the 10 nuts that hold the power head on (some were well rusted and needed some WD-40 and a little persuasion). I am lifting the powerhead by the Eye Tool in the flywheel straight up, but the front...

DIY How to build an outboard stand with a 275lbs+ rating

Have you built any stands that would take a 135hp V6? Weight is 185kg. I am looking for some advice on construction as I have a PowerHead swap to do, and need a stand for the doner engine, which is currently on a factory shipping crate.

    Mercury 135 not running

I now have a doner engine that was runnig great, and the plan is to swap Powerheads, including all the bits attached to it (carbs, starter motor, solenoids, electrics, oil pump, etc.). But I want to make sure I do not run into the same issue again, so I am going to: 1) Change out the fuel line...

    Mercury 135 not running

Yes, the oil injection was working fine, and water pump is changed at least every 2 years, and sometime 1.

    Mercury 135 not running

So I found the issue. It looks like the piston ring on the upper left piston (port side) has exploded, taking some of the piston with it (See pictures). There is a piece of the exploded ring welded into the Cylinder head, which is what is stopping the engine from turning over. I am assuming...

    Mercury 135 not running

I have had the boat for about 10 years now, and it has been great. A few minor issues with electrics, solenoids and starter motors, but that is expected with the salty conditions. I re-wired the engine about a year ago, and was working fine until something just went and stopped the engine from...

    Mercury 135 not running

I managed to get a camera and looked inside the cylinders, and it looks like there is damage around the top edge of one of the pistons. I am going to take the cover off this weekend and have a better look around. As a question, if the piston is done, is it possible to get another engine of the...

    Mercury 135 not running

I am trying to diagnose a 1997 Mercury 135 that will not run. The flywheel will only do 1 complete rotation. I have pulled the plugs and removed the lower unit, and when turning the flywheel by hand it keeps stopping at the same spot, irrespective of the direction that I turn it. All 6 pistons...
