Advice on transom , stringers and floor rebuild

So you’re putting down plywood to coverup the glue from the last carpet? How do you plan on securing it? Will the existing glue give problems with a bond?

    Captain's Chair Pedestal and Carpet

Good marine carpet should have a rubberized bottom which helps prevent fraying. Just take your time and use a sharp knife. When cutting a circle like this, start with an x over the circle and make small cuts a little at a time to cut out each quarter. I really thought hard about longevity and...

Alpha One II grinds in reverse

It doesn’t hurt to try and will most likely help. That adjustment will only affect reverse and should help engage the shift dog deeper. Best practice would be to perform the complete shift cable adjustment procedure ensuring your cable is in spec. It sounds to me like your cable is stretched, so...

    Captain's Chair Pedestal and Carpet

What boat? Prepare yourself for the ugly that lies under your deck. Boats rot from the bottom up. Depending on how your boat is built, you may have rotted stringers.

    Captain's Chair Pedestal and Carpet

This is how I did mine. Cut 2 disks out of plywood, glued to the deck after the deck was glassed. Used PB as the glue. Carpet is cut around the disk. Water won’t pool up near the pedestal fasteners since the disk is higher than the carpet. If you set the pedestal on the carpet you are inviting...

    1979 Glastron Carlson CV-23 restoration

I’ve seen others cut the tops off the stringers, dig out the core then fill the center with SeaCast. Once filled, cap with glass. I showed my buddy this method when his motor fell through one of the rotted mounts on his Rinker. It worked extremely well.

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

Thanks! We take good care of her. The original vinyl is starting to show it’s age, and has gotten a bit rigid over the years. Pretty much all of it has new plywood backers. Just have to figure out if I want to modernize it some or keep the original pattern.

    Westerbeke generator

Jumping 12v to the solenoid won’t hurt it. Being this is at the bottom of the bowl they do tend to get cruddy. I doubt it would start at all if stuck closed. If it was starving for fuel it would start to run lean and sputter before it died. If it just shuts off, it sounds like a safety switch...

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

I haven’t updated my rebuild thread in quite some time. We’ve really been enjoying the crap out of this boat. The older daughter doesn’t come with us much, but the younger girl and my wife do, as well as the dog. After being on my buddies new Axis wake surf boat a few times, I really am jealous...

    New Purchase - 1977 14’ Stuery Walk-around

Most retailers including iBoats have parts look ups for props. You can enter the model of the motor and you’ll get a list of props that’ll fit it. Those motors are pretty reliable. Crank her up and go fishing. Good luck!

Yeah, that stuffs a pain to get up. Nothing really cuts the hardened glue, and clogs the crap out of sanding discs.

Advice on a 4 winns restoration

That’s a shame. I completely restored my 20’ Chaparral by myself. Mine may have been a little easier since it was an open bow. That said, any boat from this era will be rotted unless it was restored. The 3.0 is a good motor, and extremely reliable. It would make a decent boat if restored, and...
