    Old I/Os = Money Pits?

These threads usually start out with denial, acceptance, hard work, then eventually celebration. Epic tales of making things right, to be sure.

1983 Monark 16/52 rebuild flooring question

Normally the carpet would be cut to size, then the edges are bound. Good Marine carpet should already have a rubberized bottom which is heavier than an outdoor type carpet. I’m not sure if it would need anything else on the bottom since it’s removable such as an additional coating. Others may...

    Fuel Tank - Replace?

I second @Bondo No reason to replace it unless there is damage. Replace all the fuel hoses, as well as the sending unit. Secure it in the coffin, forget about it. Mine was a tank from 1990. I cleaned it up, and reinstalled it without a second thought. No worries in the least.

    Old I/Os = Money Pits?

It’s a boat, they all have their own problems. I chose a fiberglass boat because, I’m just gonna say it, they’re just better looking. I don’t do much fishing, so I don’t need a utility boat. I restored my chap because it’s a 30 year old boat. An aluminum boat of the same era and same size would...

1983 Monark 16/52 rebuild flooring question

I really don’t like the idea of Velcro for the carpet. All of the removable carpet I’ve seen has been snap in. You would have to use a lot of Velcro to match the holding power of snaps.

    Quit My Job . . .

Ha ha. I appreciate any advice. I built both snap on mooring covers out of Sunbrella with a small Singer machine. It didn’t take me long to figure out this machine was way under powered for this job. I finished them and they turned out great, but it was a very difficult fabrication. Having the...

    Quit My Job . . .

CA would be a bit of a trip for me, lol. Does the machine that’s pictured have a servo? It looks like a constant speed motor /clutch Machine.

    Transom patch

Use a 2” or 3” holesaw. Then glue the puck back in with PB when finished.

    Transom patch

Yep, cut the rot out, peal back or grind down the glass a couple feet into the good wood. Sister a new piece of core wood in, glass everything.

    Transom patch

Forgot to mention that if the foam blocks you took out are dry and otherwise haven’t been compromised with water, there’s no reason to not reuse them. I have heard of some guys sealing old foam with resin to close any open cells. Just make sure the resin doesn’t eat the foam by testing a small...

    Transom patch

It will most likely be cheaper to pour in new foam and will provide more support. It might be difficult to find the exact size blocks you need. Most folks have found that US Composites has the best price in pour in foam.

    Quit My Job . . .

Question for you as I’m just entering the upholstery realm on my boat. How much do you use reverse? I found a Consew 225 that’s like new for $500, most likely less. I don’t think these have reverse. There is also a 205RB-1 for $1100-ish that looks new. I’m just curious your thoughts. BTW, your...

    Transom patch

As far as foam, that argument has been has been discussed thousands of times on this forum. In some boats the foam helps support the deck and is very structural as far as the integrity of the hull. All foam floats, unless the closed cell foam is compromised over several years of freeze/ thaw...

    Roof leak

I’m not a houseboat guy, but I don’t see why you can’t repair it like any other roof. Cut out a bad section of sheathing on the center of any studs, replace sheathing, install your roofing material of choice, (fiber glass in this case), done.
