2022 Splash Of The Year voting

I’m the same. I won’t make payments on a toy, which means I gotta put in the elbow grease. I’ve never had to pay someone else to work on a toy. If I can’t work on it myself, I don’t need it. The boat restore, (always still in progress), was one of my favorite projects to date. The satisfaction...

Also I really think the “fix’er up spirit” seems to be waning. Instant gratification seems to rule the day recently.

    Making engine beds

The widest point at the front of the engine on my 4.3 is about 32” due to the water pump and water intake hoses. Also I’m close to 33” at the rear of the motor due to the exhaust wye pipes and rubber couplings.

That looks like a great boat. Really enjoyed the “Reader’s Digest” version of this rebuild. The color you picked looks great. Enjoy it, it looks like it will give much joy for years to come. 👍🏼😎

Poly or epoxy, not sure what to go with?

Just grind enough to get the dirt or grime out of it. No need to go deep. Get rid of any imbedded wood, like in the chines. Sand any gel or paint out. Use acetone to clean everything up. I used MEK to clean mine as it’s a little stronger and helps the mechanical bond when using poly. I really...

Anyone here ever used "Fiberglass Supply Depot" branded flotation foam

Most of the folks here buy foam from US Composites, as did I.

Poly or epoxy, not sure what to go with?

My garage is under my house, so I didn’t do much grinding inside. I would wait for a slight breeze and grind away outside. When I was in the garage, I used a couple duct booster fans on a bracket sealed to a window blowing out. This created a negative pressure pulling from the house, (living...

    facebook and all the misinformation

I only use Facebook for the market place now, but only my wife’s account. Had to delete mine about 2 years ago. It started worrying me a bit of all the old posts and such folks were digging up to get others cancelled, and fired. In this day of woke thin skin, and my saucy comments from time to...

    Restoring Celebrity 240 cuddy

I’ve never replaced any of mine, but a lot of the oem stuff comes from TaylorMade. Check them out for seals and such. I was able to make some pretty severe plastic checking in my side windows virtually disappear by using one of those head light restoration kits. There are several brands, I found...

Poly or epoxy, not sure what to go with?

Man ain’t that the truth!! For me it’s poly all the way. For all the reasons @todhunter said.

Congratulations @88 Capri…..I mean to say, my vote is for @88 Capri. Great build and it appears an easy win for SOTY. I really enjoyed the thread as it brought back a lot of my memories for my first restoration, my ‘86 Capri. Nice work dude!!

4.3 dying when putting it in gear

Sounds like the interrupter to me. If the shift cable is binding or out of adjustment this could happen.

The Spar Urethane will have a temp range to use it in. Follow that as the drying time will be significantly extended in cooler temps. Make sure your wood is bone dry when you apply it.

    Happy Thanksgiving

Hope y’all had a great turkey day. I didn’t have to cook , just ate until I was in pain, lol. It wasn’t healthy, but I survived.

    Five Oceans Hatch Strength

When I restored my Chap I installed one of these in place of a ski locker I would never use. It’s now and anchor locker. The hatch is in the deck by the helm on an ope bow boat. It gets walked on every time the boat is used. The hatch has worked well.

    88 Capri Restoration (Splashed 08/2022)

I for one would absolutely restore a boat again. Would love to do a nice cruiser with a cabin at some point. Right now my open bow Chap is all I need. Don’t really need anything bigger with the bodies of water I frequent. I’ll be tackling some of the vinyl work this winter. Itching to get started….

Advice on transom , stringers and floor rebuild

I’ve seen a couple of these pfaff machines and some others like a Mitsubishi that can be had for cheap. I just worry about parts, and the fact that most are clutch motors. A servo motor is about $150 to $200.
