    Barefoot skiers?

In 1985 I was able to pull a guy Barefoot, without him using any Ski, Knee Board, etc to get going. He just tucked the Rope Between his Legs and laid back in the Water. As the Boat sped up, he raised himself up, Legs still straight out in front of him, and as the speed got between 43 and 45 mph...

Mercury 850 thunderbolt (cannot determine the year)

77 was the last Yr for the 66 cu in 4 cyl 850. In 78, it became the 800. So Far this is the Only Copy I found on Flea Bay of the Factory Manual. Cover page is missing, but that Manual would cover your engine...

Just thought I'd share a nice photo.

I don't don't think there is a Ladder tall enough to prevent that work around from going Over my Head.

1969 85hp starflite, low power and cutting in and out

If you keep running it, and one or more carbs are Starving for Fuel and/or Gummed Up, you risk Serious Engine Damage. Lack of Fuel, means Lack of Oil.

1969 85hp starflite, low power and cutting in and out

When you pull the Front Cover of the Air Silencer off, you will find 4 Low Speed Needles linked to that Knob. Go over the entire Fuel System, the Carbs don't hold enough Fuel to run a Minute, even at Idle

1969 85hp starflite, low power and cutting in and out

The Ignition Coil could be having issues when it gets Warm, same can happen to the Amplifier. Also. when you had the Distributor and Rotor off, to get at the Points, did you check them over for Carbon Tracks, Cracks...? Have you checked that the Spark is good enough to jump a 5/16" gap...

    4.3 GL water in oil

Was the Block and Intake Drained of ALL Water, during the Storage Period? How Cold did it get outside during winter? While it is Possible that the Head Gasket is leaking, or a Head Has a Crack in it, 99+% of the Time, Water gets into the Oil, cause the Block and/or Intake Froze A Pressure Test...

    Extreme ventilation issues?

When the Boat is on Plane, the AV Plate, will be out of the Water, and so will the Tips of the Prop Blades

    Extreme ventilation issues?

1.75" is way too high out of the water, for the speeds that combo will yield

    Extreme ventilation issues?

The first sentence: "...2001 Mercury XR6 150hp, 20" long shaft on a 25" transom..." Pretty much sums it up You might get away with it at the Top End, if you use Props that are designed to run half out of the water, but they really only work well at High Speeds, and will still slip a lot when...

    Will a 1976 85 hp head fit my 1969 85 hp?

No, the Part #s change several Times through the Years Pre 79s were 92.6 in. Displacement, Post 78s were 99.6 in. Displacement. Early Blocks will not bolt on to the Later Mid Sections. The Part #s are different for the 76 compared with the 69s. They will likely Bolt-on, but there might be...

1985 Black Max 150 Hp Leaks oil out of reservoir cap. I replaced the cap and still leaking.

The 84 V6s still had the Single Ram TnT. In 84, only the Inline 6s and the 66.6 in 4 got the New Trim System

1985 Black Max 150 Hp Leaks oil out of reservoir cap. I replaced the cap and still leaking.

Reading the Post, I couldn't tell if you meant ...I've run the V6 since 1976... or ...I've run that V6 since 1976... I thought 84 was the 1st Year for the Mixing System on the V6

    88 merc 60 (2 carb, 3 cylinder)

Check all connections in the Ignition System for Tightness, and Corrosion. Spark needs to be Consistent, at 3/8" You might have Dirt/Gum/Varnish in the Fuel Circuits in the Carb(s). While you replaced the Tank and Hose, the Hoses, between the Connector and the Carbs, might have Problems...
