    I'm going to go with hull form (for the most part). The right power on the right hull to get the right performance. I would have agreed with Jim mostly, except that my current Bayliner is actually really good at getting up out of the water quickly and planes at relatively low speed.

    You need to do a water test with the tech, or show him a video of what's happening. Maybe you're seeing or doing something wrong if he can't recreate it? If it does it "every time" for you and he couldn't find it, then something is off.

    Personally, if you're boating on inland lakes and the water isn't typically that rough, I'd not make the assumption you've got a bad hull or bones at this point. Some samples perhaps will ease your mind, but I think I'd look for reasons the boat might be water logged before I drilled too many...

    Tough question at the moment. I feel like the price is several thousand high, but the market has been kinda' nuts. Boat prices are pretty high right now. NADA helps give you an idea, but often doesn't fit the entire story. If you do some boat searches in your area, same size, year range, etc...

    Welcome aboard: 1986 was the last year for the Stringer and 1987 was the first year for the Cobra. It's not out of the question that an '87 model boat would have an '86 stern drive, and the Stringer and Cobra are very different. Got a photo of the drive?
