battery charging issue has me stumped

Typical behavior of a battery on the way out. “Holding voltage” is a meaningless measure of performance. Have the battery load tested to determine condition

What thinketh the membership here..... Useful or just hype

When I had a roller trailer, I had a piece of rope roughly 6' long with a slip knot tied on one end. Lassoed the winch post and tied off to the bow cleat to keep the boat from sliding back. Got off boat, connected the cable and winched to the post. With the bunk, I can load shallow and stick...

How to fill a totally empty tilt/trim system 1998 Yamaha 115

Ideally, you would have filled and bleed it on the bench. Now you’re stuck bleeding on the boat which can be a pain. I use a small funnel with flexible nozzle to fill. They make “squirt” tops that screw on the fluid bottles as well. The shop manual will give instruction of how to bled.

    Moving roller position on a 1989 Shoreland'r

Something to think about…extending the distance between supports (axle and hitch) can get you in trouble unless the trailer was designed for such a span. Will not get into the math, but increasing the distance from axle to hitch by 24” increases the deflection of the trailer’s support...

    Moving roller position on a 1989 Shoreland'r

Moving rollers bunks and axles sounds pretty drastic for only adding #200 to the transom. Normally, you position the boat on the trailer to get the proper tongue weight, the rest pretty much falls in place. Is the trailer designed to handle a 22’ boat? What is the calculated weight of your...

    Backup temperature gauge+sensor (digital)

Outboards don’t tolerate running lean whatsoever. Running an outboard with a lean condition for any length of time is a death sentence.

    Replacing Anodes on a 2019 225XL

97-818298Q1 97-76214Q5 It wasn't hard.........right where one would expect to find them on the parts list ;) I would investigate as to why you need new anodes (1/2 consumed) on a 4 yro. boat keep on a trailer while I was at it.

    Marina Slip Safe?

I wouldn't take it. Not worried about the water depth since I only draft 14". My problem is the 6" of clearance......certainly do-able, but why? Do you feel like threading the needle every time? Cross ties? How big are your bumpers, less than 6" is diameter? Boat traffic close by to beat you...

    Johnson FastStrike power cutting out

Sounds like an ignition problem. Check spark with spark tester to determine which cylinders are dropping out. Goo strong spark across 3/8” gap Ohm check coils, although they sometimes test good while actually bad.

Dali is propelled by a single low-speed two-stroke crosshead diesel engine coupled to a fixed-pitch propeller. Her main engine, a 9-cylinder MAN-B&W 9S90ME-C9.2 unit manufactured by Hyundai Heavy Industries under license, is rated 41,480 kW (55,630 hp) at 82.5 rpm. Her service speed is 22 knots...

    Backup temperature gauge+sensor (digital)

Unlike auto and I/o that cools the block using a secondary water pump, an outboard runs a single loop through the heads and back overboard The only way you can overheat is to loose water pressure which is why outboards come with pressure instead of temp gauges Alarm the loss of water pressure...

    Backup temperature gauge+sensor (digital)

Install a water pressure gauge instead. Pressure gauges let’s me know I have a problem in the raw water cooling long before an overheat situation occurs. Can actually see the thermostats looking and closing. Lets me monitor long term pressure, let’s me know when it’s time to change the impeller

    safety or not safety wise?

In theory but not practice......the conditions requiring signally are limited in scope to those outside normal operating practice/etiquette and thus are used very infrequently. Locally, if a Captain needs your attention they hail you on VHF. As would be confused as well given I don't know...

Baltimore bridge hit by ship, collapsed

Pilots are required to be onboard once a vessel enters the mouth of the Bay at Virginia Beach. Have had 3 run aground in the past 15 years and now this. First one cut of the corner at Sharps Island and in bedded itself 40' into the face of the bar a 1/2 mile off course. The last one ran...
