license plate mount.... where would YOU put it....

Trailer lights should have the port side bottom clear to reflect light on the licence plate. Most ride pretty low. Unless the trailer has a tilt tongue there should be no problem.

    What size trailer?

Ok, so it's 16' long. First, go weigh it. Let's call it X pounds. Second, pick out the brand trailer you want, probably from your the local dealer you like to work with. Decide on painted, aluminum or galvanized. Then, look in their catalog and chose the model with a 16' length and an X...

    Boat Pricing

A buddy bought an older Bayliner that was meticulously cared for and kept 24/7 in a heated shop. The boat looked like new. The old owner had all service records and did everything right.....except. Water was left in the bilge all the time. It was never dried out. The guts of the boat were...

What size and brand of fuel tank to get?

Good idea, I guess. I currently run 2 Moeller 6.5s with a 3-way switch to be able to switch without disconnecting. We boat in the upper Niagara. Our best fishing spot is in view of the Falls mist. Running out of gas is not an option. Priming the carb and getting the motor started again...

    Old Glasspar boat

Free boats are usually worth a lot less than what you paid for it. By the looks of it, the previous owner made a good deal because he avoided the cost of disposal. Just be aware that what you will spend to make it seaworthy will be more than it is worth.

    Boat Pricing

Kelly and NADA have prices, but it's all just speculative. A 26 year old boat ain't worth anywhere near what the book says. You can figure that there are a lot of repairs that are needed, and that's even if the hull, has not been compromised with rot. Tread carefully.

What size and brand of fuel tank to get?

As I said, 6 gal Moeller is the only choice. (Actually it's a 6.5 gal)

What size and brand of fuel tank to get?

My classic woodie sports a period correct 6 gal. metal tank that has been restored with all new gaskets and hoses, and is better than new. My other outboard tanks are new plastic made by Moeller. My Boston Whaler was equipped with them from the factory. Although I would prefer a metal tank...

Help me identify my grandfathers boat.

Cantina doesn't ring a bell. Maybe Catalina? Knowing nothing about boats is a hard way to start a restoration. A boat that hasn't been run in 14 years means that the entire fuel system needs a major restoration (replacement). "Winterized" properly? If not, the engine may be stuck and not...

Found a wooden/brass boat hook. Old?

Maybe a boat hook, maybe not. Eons ago at a garage sale I found one quite similar. I asked the old lady that was selling her stuff and she said it was the pole she used in her classroom to take care of her windows. Just before she retired the school closed and was torn down and teachers got...

Thinking about building a boat this fall

I'm quite familiar with Glen-L. When I built mine I wanted a precut "kit", and they did not have that in the style that I wanted. The models you posted are very nice and should provide a lifetime of service. The only thing to advise you is that they will take a bunch of people to giterdone.

    latest aquisitions.....

Traditionally, if you wanted an exhilarating ride you bought a SeaDoo. If you wanted extreme reliability you bought a Yamaha. If you wanted high speed you bought a Kawasaki. If you didn't care about ugliness, you bought a Honda. And finally, if you wanted cheap, you bought a Polaris. Never...

    latest aquisitions.....

I've been a "jetskier" for 30+ years, and have owned several since 1999. So, I may not be an expert, but I kinda know some things. A 29 year old Yamaha or Seadoo 'ski is an iffy proposition. A Polaris of any age is bad karma. Don't spend a dime and offer them for free.

Thinking about building a boat this fall

As a 19 year old college kid in 1968, I simple HAD to have a boat. I bought a plywood pre-cut "kit" for $165. Another $60 for paint and glue, $50 for running hardware and another $50 for misc. She was built in about 5 months. I have to say, though, that it was built in Grandpa's garage and...

    Why would an outboard Mechanic?

The performance benefit is that the mechanic didn't have to admit he screwed up. You need a new mechanic. Get a new bolt. Coat the threads with anti-seize. Push it n covered with JB Weld and once it cures you should be OK.

Restoring a trailer vs replacing a trailer

Back in 1986 I bought a fixerupper rig. I still own it - its the Sea Nymph in my signature. The motor had just been serviced, so that wasn't an issue. We used Aluminum jelly and new decals and the boat was now perfect. The trailer was another issue. 100% rust. I sanded and applied rust...

Where you buy gasoline is critical.

Our local marina is in a particularly important location, and was the only horse to ride. They currently only have two above ground tanks, one for gas and the other diesel. But, back in the day they had underground tanks and one was for 50:1 2 stroke outboards. It had a sweep to keep it...

    What torque for my prop?

I may be of only minor help here because I have CRS. Also, my engine is a Merc. 60 Command thrust. Nevertheless,.... Bought the motor brand new on a Boston Whaler. It suffered from prop chatter from day 1. I did some R &D and found it was a common problem, even though it was torqued...

    Fuel question(s)

When they "introduced" ethanol fuel they told us about draining the tanks, keeping the tanks full, replacing the fuel lines, yada, yada. Then...............they admitted that they have been sending this stuff for a couple of years before telling us. We didn't have problems before we knew, now...

Brand New Boat Owner- Prop Question

    1. Take a boater safety course. 2. Buy a chart of the waters you intend to boat in and memorize it. 3. While on land raise the engine to that the prop is bellow the bottom of the boat and note the position. When at or near the launch ramp go very slow and raise the motor to that position so...
