Can skeg damage cause vibration/noise on plane?

Back in the '60's I damaged a few aluminum props. Then I bought a depth finder. Not a panacea, but I haven't hit a prop in 40 years. We do beach on a sandbar almost every time out. Sand can screw up aluminum, while SS won't be bothered. The REAL reason for SS is the performance that comes...

    The End

The weather report for the next week does not look good. The following week we are going to the Caribbean on vacation. After that, who knows? I spent all day yesterday winterizing. Serviced, waxed, detailed and covered. Tanks are full and tires aired. I suppose I could simply take the...

    Bunk rollers

I replaced the OEM bunks with this very setup a week after I bought my brand new Starcraft / Load Rite setup. Worked perfect. Add up the boat, engine and stuff total weight and then divide by the number of rollers. If you have less than 100# per roller you will be fine no matter what type of...

Can skeg damage cause vibration/noise on plane?

Skeg damage is likely not causing this type of vibration. A bent aluminum prop is the likely cause. We all have had prop damage. THAT is the specific reason I got rid of aluminum props many years ago. SS will sustain a lot more abuse.

Need help with dirty stubborn pontoons

Good to know. I guess I'll go back now. Swimming sounds better than a diet anyway.

Need help with dirty stubborn pontoons

When I got my used tinny I cleaned the hull to a shiny finish using a scrub brush and Aluminum jelly. Worked like a charm. As the years went by it gradually tarnished. One Summer we spent a week in Chautauqua Lake in southern NY and after taking the boat out of the water the hull below the...

    Sears Jon Boat Info Needed

Good advice. But even better advice is to use bolts. EVERY boat I have ever owned has had the motor bolted. Of course, they have all been trailer boats and the motors were left on when travelling. If the motor bracket was not fitted with bolt holes I added U-bolts and secured it real well...

Vintage OMC fuel tank rebuild ..

OMC dealers are basically non-existent after they went out of business. Maybe you would be lucky to find a current dealer that used to sell OMC in the past. My goto guy is Laing's Outboards in North Tonawanda, NY.

    To shallow?

The pic above looks quite like the beach I have been going to for almost 60 years now. It's all sand. We motor in slow and cut off the engine at the last minute and then raise the outdrive. Jump in, grab the bow eye and pull her up onto the sand. The stem sees no damage. The first 3 feet of...

    towing - engine in neutral?

I won awards for science in High School. It got me a University scholarship. After learning a lot of crap in College, I spent a 45 year career in Engineering. "For all the crap I learned in High School, it's a wonder I can think at all". LOL...a quote.....not mine. In any event, there is...

    Parking boat in driveway

I live in a solid middle class neighborhood. All gainfully employed or retired, and lots of professionals. Having said that, there are some trash that inherited their houses from wealthy grandparents, and we have to live with that. OF COURSE, no HOA or I would not have built my dream house...

Rust, generally how to clean and best spray to keep it from rusting?

If the rust has been there for any length of time the metal will be pitted. Sanding is a preferred method, but it may not completely remove the pits. Rust Reformer is a fantastic product. It provides a chemical reaction that turns iron oxide black, and turns it into an inert compound.

Rust, generally how to clean and best spray to keep it from rusting?

In 1986 I bought a second hand boat and trailer. The trailer was a Gator, and it had more rust than paint. I wire bushed the trailer and then coated it with brushed Rust Reformer, followed by a brushed coat of Fish Oil Primer, followed by a rolled coat of Gloss topcoat. All Rustoleum...

Why I do not have new boats.

During Covid, we were all housebound. People were going crazy. Some bought pools and now they are green because they didn't know how to care for them. Some bought boats and many were even more clueless. I would imagine that many of them did not give them the care that they deserved, simply...

    Outboard weight.

I used to take my 40# kickers off the boat and store them in the basement for the Winter. Did that thru age 73. Now at age 75 I leave them on the boat. If I had a RIB I'd buy a trailer and leave the engine on the boat, covered and in the garage.
