my boat won’t sit on the front bottom roller

They are called straight rollers. Often used on some small roller bunks.

    1995 Spartan Supreme roller trailer

One cracked roller. Other than that it just about the best setup I have seen in years. Lower the bow keel roller just a tad to stop the movement. Whoever set that trailer up knew what he was doing. Possible the rollers simply aged. I second the poly roller suggestion.

    Help with bow roller setup

That's the answer. Other than a little jetski or an old woodie, I haven't cranked a boat winch in years. My current two boats had the winches removed and the winch stands modified to accept a Powerwinch. In both cases I used a poly roller setup because of their non-marking qualities as well...

    Trailer modification

You must have experience with only upscale winches. My personal favorite is DL. Certainly the above pic does not show an upscale product. My last 3 boats came with OEM top loaded winches - a Boston Whaler, a SeaRay and a Yamaha Waverunner. All were replaced with a Powerwinch (brand) that was...

    Trailer modification

The vast majority of winches are designed for a top unload. Using the bottom will defeat the braking mechanism and probably the ratchet. Cranking counterclockwise for a right handed person is unnatural. Coming off the bottom may cause the strap to rub on places it shouldn't rub when pulling...

    Trailer modification

The keel roller is set too low. The back of the bunks are set too high. The front of the bunks are set too low. The homemade wood bunk support needs to be replaced with a proper adjustable bracket. Fit the boat properly on the trailer and then adjust the winch stand properly. Can't tell for...

time to say goodbye to all.

My earliest recollection of life itself was at age 4 sitting next to Grandpa with his hand holding mine on the tiller. When Grandma died and Grandpa sold the boat it was the worst day of my life. It took me a few years but I had a boat before I had a car. If I ever say goodbye it will be as...

    Pricing restored boats

Back in 1963 my best friend's Dad had a boat that I dreamed about for 50 years. In 2005 I found one just like it and bought it on the spot. It is not "restored", but rather "preserved". All parts are original. Sanding, repainting, etc. took a couple of years. In the end I had $5k into her...

    Old Cobia?

Cobias are common in my neck of the woods. Never seen one like that. Fiberglassics does not even show a similar model in their archives. It looks like the reg. numbers were blocked out in the pic. DMV records would possibly identify if it truly is a Cobia. The HIN would indicate the year...

    Parking boat in driveway

In my neck of the woods we call it a jalopy.

    towing - engine in neutral?

Although I have switched t a newer and less used ramp, for many years I used the town ramp that was heavily damaged by power loading. Most every week I saw at least one guy drop his axle off the end. My cuffs are fine, but I am simply lazy. My boats have had power winches for the last 40...

    Disaster Relief

What I posted was not a national charity. It was my DIL's church in Georgia that is close to the needs. My DIL's parents were hit by the storm. They sustained damage, but not catastrophic. Their house is still livable and they finally got the power back. After listening to their Pastor...

    Disaster Relief

We had a family gathering this weekend. My DIL is from GA and some of her family had been affected by the hurricane. I said that I wanted to donate to the help fund and had thought about the Red Cross. My son immediately said NOOOO, it is a govt. thing and most of the money is lost. My DIL...

Does the antifreeze you use really matter?

That is NOT the one you need. Give it to someone else that has an RV. There are 2 kinds of "pink stuff". One is for toilets, sinks and potable water systems. The other is for engine cooling systems. You got the former. It's also the cheaper of the 2 varieties. Lots of bad talk about...

Old tandem pontoon trailer question - no brakes

My state requires brakes required if the laden weight is above 3000 pounds. My last boat (per specs) was at 2850. That was dry. The paperwork stated 2850 pounds. I'm sure that with gas and all the gear it grossly exceeded 3000. I got away with it. I simply hate brakes just because of all...

Bone headed move - put the plug in with 3M 4200

When I had my issue there was no "online". We only had one local marine supply store, plus the Herter's catalog. West Marine had not yet moved into town. The "Lubricants Dealer" close to me sold wheel bearing grease - one for autos and one for boat trailers. We all should be thankful that...

Bone headed move - put the plug in with 3M 4200

My last 2 trailers were private labeled, but manufactured by Karavan. Before the first winterizations I called Karavan with the serial numbers and asked specifically what wheal bearing grease was used. They were 2 years apart and sure enough 2 different products were used. Each time I bought...

Sadly a lot of motors will suddenly be for sale.

I agree. But for the current situation I would pass 100%. I imagine the people spent a lot of time on their house and didn't bother too much with the outboard.

Bone headed move - put the plug in with 3M 4200

I never put ANYTHING on the drain plug. Of course I'm in fresh water. Now that I'm thinking about it, I haven't even pulled the plug in years. My bilge is always dry.
